  2. Why is work experience important? Why is work experience important? Good qualifications are very important to find jobs in the future, but you can do more to make yourself stand out to potential employers. Work experience is an important part of becoming workplace-ready : building useful skills that cannot always be taught in the classroom developing experience that may not otherwise be possible.

  3. Work experience can add considerable clout to a student s CV, and if they re thinking of applying to uni, some professional credibility will look great on their UCAS personal statement . UCAS

Develop soft skills such as teamwork, communication, organisation, problem-solving, adapting to different situations The opportunity to do something well and build your confidence Increase your self-understanding, maturity and independence Test out a company/sector/role - explore possible career options Enhance your CV and applications

  5. How to find work experience How to find work experience Ask family and friends if they or anyone they know who can offer a two-day placement. If you are interested in a specific employment sector, research companies on the internet and contact them via email. Employers prefer to hear directly from students rather than parents if possible. We will be signing all Year 10 students up to the Unifrog platform for all the administration of placements. Unifrog gives helpful advice on how to find placements - https://www.unifrog.org/student/know-how/keywords/for-students-a-guide-to-placements-work-experience. Some employers may ask you to complete a simple application form or to come and meet them before the placement. You are not permitted to complete your placement in any current job you may have nor are you allowed to be paid for this placement. Research the company before you go. Make sure you know what the organisation does, its aims and values, and who its customers are.

  6. When you have found your employer and secured a placement, you can start the process of recording it on unifrog. There is a link to unifrog on your school account. Once you are on Unifrog, scroll down until you find the Placements Tool box (purple). See next slide. Click on the Go to Tool instruction. Please note, your work experience coordinator is Miss King.

  7. The deadline for completing Steps 1 and 2 is Friday 10th February 2023. Here are the steps that need to be completed.: 1. Student find placement and complete initial form 2. Employer to complete initial form 3. Parent/Guardian to complete agreement 4. School to complete permission form 5. School check in during placement 6. Employer completes review form after placement 7. Student completes reflection form after placement.

  8. Expectations Expectations Remember you are a representative of the school on your placement. Be on time. Be polite and respectful. Be professional. Dress appropriately and wear comfortable shoes if you're going to be on your feet all day. Listen and follow instructions. Ask questions. No mobile phones during work hours (unless permitted by employer). Don t give up when it s difficult. You will be given a diary to complete during your placement.
