  1. WHY DO WE NEED AFFECTION TO FEEL VALUED IN LIFE FINAL INQUIRY PROJECT ENGLISH 10 BY HAYLEIGH BUTCHER, KAITLIN WALASHEK, MICHAELLA CRAWFORD AND JORDAN TURNBULL

  2. INQUIRY QUESTION : WHY DO WE NEED AFFECTION TO FEEL VALUED IN LIFE

  3. NOVEL : THE HUNGER GAMES BEFORE KATNISS VOLUNTEERS TO GO INTO THE ARENA THE BOOK TAKES A LITTLE ABOUT HOW HER FATHER DIED AND HOW THAT EVENT LED TO HER AND HER MOTHER NOT BEING AS CLOSE AS THEY USED TO BE. THE DEATH OF HER FATHER LED HER MOTHER TO DEPRESSING AND TO ISOLATE HERSELF RESULTING TO KATNISS BECOMING MORE INDEPENDENT AND ALSO HAVING TO LEARN HOW TO TAKE CARE OF HER SISTER AS WELL AS HERSELF. I THINK BECAUSE KATNISS DID NOT RECEIVE MUCH ATTENTION FROM HER MOTHER MADE HER MORE INDEPENDENT AND MORE WANTING TO BE BY HERSELF BECAUSE THERE WASN T ANYONE SHE COULD REALLY LEAN ON OR TALK TO ABOUT HER FATHERS DEATH. KATNISS DIDN T GET THE AFFECTION SHE NEEDED IN A TIME OF NEED TO FEEL VALUED OR NOTICED AS HER MOTHER JUST IGNORED HER AND HER SISTER. BECAUSE SHE DIDN T GET THE AFFECTION SHE NEEDED IT MADE HER TURN COLDER TOWARDS HER MOTHER AND THEIR RELATIONSHIP AS WELL AS MAKING HER FEEL MORE ALONE.

  4. VISUAL In this picture a child is sitting beside his parents who are both on their phones. As you can tell by the child s expression he looks sad or bored. Social Media and all the new technology is a big part of connecting with others as well as ways of communicating with others. In this picture the parents are showing signs of being too busy or being preoccupied on their phones that they don t even notice the look of sadness on the kids face. We need to feel that we are noticed or that we can be heard to feel important especially from our parents or loved ones. I think we need the signs of affection like feeling loved or cared for or even just being heard to feel valued. This picture shows that without getting affection is can make us feel unimportant or unwanted.
