  1. MakingThings Right When Things Go Wrong

  2. When Things Go Wrong The importance of attitude. The difference conviction can make. The guidance of goals in our lives. Letting go of the past.

  3. When Things Go Wrong Check Your Resentment Where does resentment come from? 1. From Latin word resento to re-feel. 2. Steams from a hurt or a wrong we suffered. 3. Left un checked, it is emotionally devastating.

  4. When Things Go Wrong Check Your Resentment Take the Initiative Jesus took the initiative in forgiveness Luke 23:34 Romans 5:6-8 I can t unless they ask for forgiveness first. We have to keep a list Rationalized hate Serves up more trouble

  5. When Things Go Wrong Check Your Resentment Take the Initiative For you have been called for this purpose, since Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example for you to follow in His steps, who committed no sin, nor was any deceit found in His mouth; and while being reviled, He did not revile in return; while suffering, He uttered no threats, but kept entrusting Himself to Him who judges righteously; and He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed. (1 Peter 2:21-24)

  6. When Things Go Wrong Check Your Resentment Take the Initiative To sum up, all of you be harmonious, sympathetic, brotherly, kindhearted, and humble in spirit; not returning evil for evil or insult for insult, but giving a blessing instead; for you were called for the very purpose that you might inherit a blessing. For, The one who desires life, to love and see good days, must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit. He must turn away from evil and do good; He must seek peace and pursue it. For the eyes of the Lord are toward the righteous, and his ears attend to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil. (1 Peter 3:8-12)

  7. When Things Go Wrong Check Your Resentment Take the Initiative So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience; bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you. (Colossians 3:12-13)

  8. When Things Go Wrong Check Your Resentment Take the Initiative Never pay back evil for evil to anyone. Respect what is right in the sight of all men. If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all men. Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, Vengeance is mine, I will repay," says the Lord. But if your enemy is hungry, feed him, and if he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in so doing you will heap burning coals on his head. Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. (Romans 12:17-21)

  9. When Things Go Wrong Check Your Resentment Resentment is the Destroyer Resentment is the number one offender. It destroys more alcoholics than anything else. From it stem all forms of spiritual disease, for we have been not only mentally and physically ill, we have been spiritually sick. When the spiritual malady is overcome, we straighten out mentally and physically. (p.64, Alcoholics Anonymous)

  10. When Things Go Wrong Check Your Resentment Resentment is the Destroyer Don t wait to trade it for a request for forgiveness. Who is resentment hurting most? We have to learn to dump the resentment or it will destroy us.

  11. When Things Go Wrong Check Your Resentment How do we overcome? 1. Be vulnerable, allow yourself to feel the underlying emotions that resentment is masking. 2. Be aware of what resentment looks like in your life. 3. Identify how you may have played a part in circumstances for which you are resentful. 4. Practice expressing the resentment differently.

  12. When Things Go Wrong Check Your Resentment How do we overcome? 5. Treat the people that we have resentment toward with compassion and kindness. 6. Resist the urge to channel the resentment of others. 7. Realize that unless we change, this is as good as it s going to get. 8. Forgive, become the one that makes the change.

  13. When Things Go Wrong Check Your Resentment Hard Questions 1. How do we get even? 2. How do we get rid of the pain? 3. How do we get rid of the memories?

  14. When Things Go Wrong Check Your Resentment Consider Joseph Joseph named the firstborn Manasseh, "For," he said, "God has made me forget all my trouble and all my father's household." He named the second Ephraim, "For," he said, "God has made me fruitful in the land of my affliction. (Genesis 41:51-52)

  15. When Things Go Wrong Check Your Resentment Consider Joseph Then his brothers also came and fell down before him and said, "Behold, we are your servants." But Joseph said to them, "Do not be afraid, for am I in God's place? "As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good in order to bring about this present result, to preserve many people alive. "So therefore, do not be afraid; I will provide for you and your little ones." So he comforted them and spoke kindly to them. (Genesis 50:18-21)
