  1. Born in the City of David Chapter 12

  2. Mary and Joseph When Joseph heard that Mary was to have a child, he was going to break his engagement with her. An angel appeared to him in a dream and told him not to be afraid, and to take Mary for his wife. (Mt 1:20-21) Joseph trusted God and did as the angel said.

  3. Joseph is told in a dream to take Mary as his wife.

  4. To Bethlehem Caesar Augustus decreed that a census was to take place and all men must go to their family town. This fulfilled the prophecy of Micah that the Savior will be born in Bethlehem. (Micah 5:1-4) The Son of God was born in a lowly stable, and was visited by shepherds.

  5. Jesus was born in a stable.

  6. The Incarnation God became man for us. (Jn 3: 16-17) God experienced our human joys and sorrows, and what it is like to see, feel, hear, taste and smell. Because of this, we are now closer to God. The Word of God, Jesus Christ, on account of his great love for mankind, became what we are in order to make us what he is himself. -St Irenaeus

  7. The Presentation at the Temple Joseph and Mary took Jesus to be presented at the temple according to Jewish law. The prophet Simeon said, Jesus was a light to reveal you to the Gentiles and told Mary, Your own heart shall be pierced by a sword. Hearing Simeon say this was one of the great sorrows of Mary.
