The play "The School for Wives" by Moliere explores themes of love, power, and deception through the story of Arnolphe, who tries to mold his ward Agnes into the perfect wife but is thwarted when she falls in love with Horace. The central conflict revolves around Arnolphe's controlling nature and Agnes's defiance of his expectations. 1. THE SCHOOL FOR WIVES PLAY ANALYSIS 1.The name of the play is School for wives 2.The author was Moliere 3.It was originally published March 17,1663 and has not won any awards which surprised me because i loved it.

  2. THE SCHOOL FOR WIVES PLAY ANALYSIS 4.I kept looking for ways that the title could mean something but I can't seem to find a deeper meaning, i think its just to poke fun at the idea of a perfect wife 5.I consider the setting to be around the 1630s to 1690s because back then planned arrangements were a thing and one of the main character was almost forced to marry someone who he did not love. 6.One of the theme is love and how powerful it can be, it changed Agnes's mind about life and made her a new person.

  3. THE SCHOOL FOR WIVES PLAY ANALYSIS 7.The central conflict is Arnolphe s way of thinking about the perfect wife is and him trying to turn Agnes into her when she has already fallen love with Horace. The Protagonist would have to be Horace and the antagonist Arnolphe even though the play is told from Arnolphe s perspective. 8.It starts of with Arnoplhe going to his friends house and finding out by Horace that he's been having an affair with Agnes who he plans to marry because he finds the most loyal and perfect girl, he then returns home to find out that it was his Agnes whom Horace was talking about, he makes it his goal to ensure that they cant have an affair but they always found a way to be together no matter what he did, even though Arnolphe knew everything before it happened thanks to Horace telling him everything due to the fact that he thinks that they are friends and is unaware that de la souche is Arnolphe, at the end Arnolphe finally reveals it to him by betraying him while knowing he would find out, but by then has grown to know he can never be with Agnes and starts helping him to be with Agnes.

  4. THE SCHOOL FOR WIVES PLAY ANALYSIS 9.Arnolphe: Wealthy, controlling, clever, changed his name to Monsieur de la souche, and is the guardian of Agnes. Agnes: young, said to be too simple minded and not clever and self contained but she proves Arnolphe wrong when she falls in love with Horace. Horace: A handsome young man who falls in love with Agnes, good with words(flirting). 10. Horace: Well, since you ask, I ll lay my secrets bare. I have been having a covert love affair- Which, out of friendship, I shall now unveil. This quote is important because that's how Horace and Arnolphe become friends and Horace begins to tell Arnolphe all about the affair between Horace and Agnes without knowing who Arnolphe was because he changed his name. Arnolphe: I ve told you that, despite your stubborn son, you ought to hold the wedding. This quote is very important because before this Horace finally found out who Arnolphe really was when he betray Arnolphe: Wealthy, controlling, clever, changed his name to Monsieur de la souche, and is the guardian of Agnes.

  5. THE SCHOOL FOR WIVES PLAY ANALYSIS 11. Enamoured: to be filled with a feeling of love for. 12. This is now my favorite play, i normally don't like reading and i never read a book but this play was so entertaining that i didn't want to stop reading. The plot is really good and it kept me guessing what was gonna happen next and had many moments were the unexpected happens. Overall i would really recommend it is hilarious.
