DAQ Hardware and Interfaces R&D projects.
Introduction R&D projects starting to form Provide input to TDR What hardware oriented projects ? Need projects that can be completed in < 1 year Initial results in Q3/Q4 2018
Possible Hardware Implementation/Interfaces Topics Hardware Implement a DPM (for SLAC ATCA system) Much work already done in Oxford ( Babak Abi et.al.) Needs firmware and software Also design a light-weight carrier board? PCIe format? Basis for test stand? Optics on carrier board? SSD on carrier board?
Software Throughput Demonstrate what throughput is possible in practice Felix in server PC, 100GBit Ethernet Use hardware demonstrator ( or another server loaded with SSDs ) as data source.
Interfaces Demonstrate full path WIB Server PC
Timing System Do we need an R&D project for this? Important system, but should be demonstrated as a result of protoDUNE Investigate link to accelerator timing? Have simple R&D project to investigate things that haven t been demonstrated by protoDUNE? Implement test in Fermilab/Sanford?
Project Timescale Form projects in next couple of weeks Integrated with Expressions of Interest For hardware demonstrator probably need hardware ~ October Need to have as platform for futher tests Need to be realistic in scope
Meetings Working groups give way to R&D projects In interim merge architecture and Hardware meetings? Keep Thursday time-slot Organize R&D project meetings when we know more about structures
