What is a school community? A school community is made up of various people who work together to ensure the education of the students in the school. People in a community usually know and help each other.
What is a school community? You are a member of a school community that includes other students, their families, teachers and other members of staff. All members of the school community work together to create a positive environment for everyone involved.
Students The most important people in the school community are the students! They are the reason why everyone else is there. In some schools, the students can form a student council that meets up to discuss the needs of the school community. In this way, students can get involved in solving problems.
Teachers As educators, teachers play a very important role in the school community. They guide and support the learning and wellbeing of their students.
Learning support teachers Some teachers are part of the Special Education Team in a school. They give extra support to students with special educational needs.
SNAs Some students are helped by a Special Needs Assistant, or SNA. SNAs work in the classroom, assisting whenever they can.
Families The family of each student their parents, grandparents or guardians are also part of the school community. They support their child s education and can get involved in school activities such as fundraising events or the parents association.
Principal Every school has a principal. The principal oversees the day-to-day running of the school and makes important decisions about how the school will develop. Some principals work as a teacher as well. Most have their own office in the school.
Deputy principal Some schools have a deputy principal. This is usually the case with very large schools. The deputy takes on extra responsibilities and assists the principal in the running of the school.
Secretary Most schools have a secretary, who answers the phone and does important paperwork for the principal. The secretary s office is usually near the front door to the school. The secretary undertakes many tasks and is usually quite busy!
Caretaker A caretaker is a person who does the maintenance jobs around the school. The caretaker looks after the school building and grounds. Cutting the grass and fixing the lights are examples of the many different jobs that the caretaker does.
