  6. COVID INFORMATION DIRECT VS. INDIRECT CONTACT (FAQ) Per the Ohio Department of Health and Cuyahoga County Board of Health, a contact-related COVID shut down must be initiated if a player is confirmed to have come into direct and sustained contact (i.e. lives with the person) with someone who tested positiveAND also came into contact with the team within 48 hours of that positive test. For indirect contact (2 or more degrees of separation), a shutdown is not necessary if no signs or symptoms are present.This is the standard as long as the athlete themself does not show any signs or symptoms. A full quarantine/shutdown becomes necessary when an athlete who was in direct contact with the team or coaches shows a positive COVID test. At that point, anyone who was in contact with that player would need to quarantine for 14 days and workouts would be paused. It is important to note that only people who were in direct contact with a person who tests positive would need to be shut down,which is the reason that it is recommended that players work in consistent pods or groups. For example, if a student in Group A tests positive, but had no contact with anyone in Group B, Group B could continue to work out while Group A was in quarantine. Finally, it is important to note that each family must make the decision that they feel is best for them and their specific situation. Unfortunately, it is impossible for anyone to release a set of guidelines that will fit every single person or every family's needs perfectly. We are working the best we can within the guidelines provided to us from ODH and CCBH as well as working with hundreds of other districts around the state and applying them to our athletics and activities here at Fairview, but ultimately, each family should make the decision that is best for them.

  8. COVID RELATED COACH RESPONSIBILITIES Daily Symptom Check of ALL participants Assists with tracking of signs and symptoms AND contact tracing in case of a positive test Sanitation Report, documenting and recording sanitation of equipment and facilities multiple times per workout.

COVID COACHING RESPONSIBILITIES Must complete both reports in the prior slide and be prepared to submit to Athletic Director as needed Required to report any findings of contact or exposure to COVID As part of the symptom check, temperatures taken daily of all participants Keep ALL records confidential and only share with Athletic Director for tracking and tracing purposes Abide by all protocols and procedures in place from FPCSD, OHSAA, ODH, and CCBH

  21. PAY TO PARTICIPATE FEES High School $90 Middle School $60 Clubs (Drill Team, Synchronettes) $60 Fees must be paid by the first day of competition THESE ARE IMPORTANT Athletic budget is made up almost EXCLUSIVELY of P2P fees and ticket sales. This is how we operate.

  22. ELIGIBILITY Per OHSAA, student-athletes must pass 5 classes (not including PE) in the most recent academic quarter Per FPCS, student-athletes must also maintain a GPA of 2.0 in the most recent academic quarter If a student does not pass 5 credit hours, they are automatically ineligible for the subsequent sports season If a student IS passing 5 credit hours, but does not have a 2.0 GPA, they may enter an Academic Probation period in which grades are monitored every two weeks throughout the quarter. CCP/Polaris classes = 3 credit hours IMPORTANT OHSAA has waived all of these requirements for 2020/2021 due to the effects of COVID-19 and the differing school systems BUT we still have our own requirements

ELIGIBILITY ON THE PLP For students on the Personalized Learning Platform, grades will be exported from the PLP 1 week after the conclusion of the previous quarter THIS IS EQUIVALENT TO A QUARTER GRADE PLACED IN POWERSCHOOL For passing and GPA calculation purposed, ONLY the #% in the class will be taken into account, even if the class says Incomplete Example -A student could have an 85% in a class but the class may show Incomplete if one project or focus area is not done. For Eligibility purposes, the student will be given an 85% B for that class.

  24. ACADEMIC RECOVERY PROGRAM (PROBATION) Students who are passing 5 credit hours but do not have a 2.0 GPA will enter into the Academic Recovery Program (ARP) Grades will be checked every 2 weeks, beginning the second week after final grades are reported. Student may continue to participate in their sport during the ARP as long as they maintain 5 passing credits and a 2.0 GPA. If these criteria are not met, the student will become ineligible.

ELIGIBILITY TIMELINE 1st Quarter - Determines Beginning of Winter Eligibility 2nd Quarter - Determines End of Winter and Beginning of Spring Eligibility 3rd Quarter - Determines End of Spring Eligibility 4th Quarter - Determines Fall Eligibility GRADES ARE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE STUDENT Not the teachers, parents, not school administration. Grades can be monitored through PowerSchool and the PLP Contact teachers or counselors with questions BEFORE the end of the quarter to avoid accidental ineligibility

  26. OTHER ELIGIBILITY NOTES A students overall GPA has no impact on eligibility. High school student turns 20 immediately ineligible Athlete will be ruled ineligible if they compete on a non-high school team during their season.   29. STUDENT CODE OF CONDUCT Student-athlete behavior affects public perception of institutional ethics, athletic department standards, and the character of the student body. All athletes will demonstrate positive behavior, sportsmanship and self-control at all times, on and off the court/field of play Student-athletes must comply with all elements of the Student Handbook approved by FPCS. Student-athletes are subject to this compliance 24/7 whether at school, at home, in public, or on social media. Any and all violations of the student handbook will be handled with discipline defined by the handbook and administrative policy.

  30. SOCIAL MEDIA POLICY Students will not author, forward/repost, or post vulgar or offensive notes, texts, photographs, or other content that reflect negatively on themselves, their team or organization, other individuals, Fairview Park City School or any other entity, or that conflict with the spirit or intent of this Code or other Codes of Conduct to which student-athletes are expected to adhere. Students understand that their Social Media profiles are an extension of themselves and a representation of Fairview High School and Mayer Middle School.

  31. PENALTIES FOR VIOLATING ATHLETE CODE OF CONDUCT First Offense: The parents will be notified. Fourteen (14) calendar day suspension from any student activities. Second Offense: The parents will be notified. Twenty-eight (28) calendar day suspension from any student activities. Third Offense: The parents will be notified. Removal from any student activities for a twelve (12) calendar month period of time. Applies to use of drugs, alcohol, tobacco, nicotine, vaping and violation of Social Media policy at Administrative discretion.

  32. PARENT CODE OF CONDUCT/EXPECTATIONS Encourage but don t pressure Be a good sport to coaches, fans, and officials Officials are people too -TREAT THEM AS SUCH Support your child and the team Stay positive. Nothing is gained through negativity, especially on gameday Be a role model Do not embarrass your child, your family, the Fairview Park City Schools, or our community If you have an issue with a coach or situation - 24 HOUR RULE, then follow the necessary steps per the Chain of Command

  33. STUDENT/PARENT/ATHLETE EJECTION POLICY Any student or parent or other spectator who is ejected from an event shall be removed from all events for the remainder of that day AND the individual shall be unable to attend the following contest in that sport. A 2ndejection in the same season will result in a ban from home events for the remainder of the season For an athlete who is ejected from a game - OHSAA policy suspends them for the remainder of that and TWO CONTESTS to follow (ONE in Football)

COLLEGE BOUND ATHLETES Must register for NCAA Clearinghouse at www.ncaaclearinghouse.net The Clearinghouse processes academic qualifications for all prospective Division I and Division II athletes and determines whether they are eligible to compete.
