Welcome future public health practitioners! Evidence-based: You care about PEOPLE/COMMUNITIES; and You care about HEALTH! Especially during a pandemic and other challenges humanity faces!
Facts Milestone 2008 MPH Program established 2011 MPH Program moved to the Department of Environmental and Public Health Sciences 2012 MPH Program accredited by CEPH 2018 MPH Program reaccredited for 7 years 2021 UC Approves MD/MPH Program Current 7 concentrations 38 faculty (27 primary faculty) ~150+ students (including YOU!) Largest incoming class ever!
Roadmap to Success Maintain high academic achievements; Know your responsibilities; Know your curriculum well review it each semester!; Meet your advisor (Concentration Director) each semester to discuss your course plan and achievements; Communicate with your instructors throughout the semester; Meet with your practicum/culminating experience (CE) Director before you start to plan your practicum and CE (meet all requirements); Meet your MPH Director if you have any difficulties/concerns/special requests of your MPH study; and Be professional in ALL communications with faculty and other students!
Roadmap to Success Maximize working experience in public health; Volunteer (20 hours required) your choice Intern/fellowship Applied Practical Experience (APE)* practicum Integrated Learning Experience (ILE)* culminating experience Develop network with students, alumni, faculty, and community partners; Gamma Rho and other student chapters Student events Department seminars - mandatory Develop key skill sets in leadership, public policy, management, communication, written and presentation, and quantitative analysis Be aware of deadlines Plagiarism do not do it!! *Cannot be paid!
Know your curriculum Total 42 credits Core course 19 credits Concentration 12 credits Most (about 12 credits) are required APE (Practicum) 2 credits ILE (Culminating Experience [CE]) - 3 credits Capstone or Thesis Maintain a grade of B- and 3.0+ GPA Grade of C or C- in core and concentration - courses must be repeated In person learning follow all guidelines/signage

Background A Council on Education in Public Health (CEPH)- accredited program An Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH) member One of the largest programs in Ohio (ranked third) Hosted in DEPHS, UCCOM Kettering Lab Complex Over 90k sq. ft. faculty (multidisciplinary) staff 4 PhD programs, one physician residency program (Occ Health - MPH) and other MS programs
