School Counselors School counselors: support academic achievement and student development provide direct services to students through interactions in the classroom, small and large group activities, individual student planning, and responsive services with counseling and crisis response serve as student advocates to promote academic, career, personal and social development. Course Placement Student placement in academic courses will reflect consideration of prior academic performance (test scores, student s overall academic record, teacher and staff recommendations) and student related interests Advanced and Cambridge level courses for qualified students Interventions for students needing additional support Differentiated supports for English Language Learners (ELL) and students with disabilities 7

Cambridge Secondary Advanced studies option for middle school students which builds skills, knowledge, and understanding in English language arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies Designed to meet the needs of the most advanced learner with an emphasis on creativity, innovation, and scholarly discourse Students develop the skills and content knowledge necessary to meet the demands of advanced course work Cambridge Learner Attributes: Responsible, Innovative, Confident, Engaged, Reflective 8

Cambridge Eligibility Criteria for Participation: Eligibility for gifted services*, and/or Level of 4 or 5 on the statewide assessment for both English Language Arts and Mathematics, and GPA of at least 3.5 Cambridge Primary participation is not necessary for entry into Cambridge Secondary Other Candidate Characteristics: academic excellence commitment to the program involvement in outside activities attendance behavior 9

  10. Elective Course Requests Elective Course selection will be input electronically Counselors will be visiting elementary schools 10

  13. Laptops Students will be keeping the laptop they have now and bringing it with them from their elementary school Students carry them with them from class to class We recommend getting a protective case, along with a backpack with a laptop sleeve Replacement cost is $547 13

Before/After School Before school program (study hall) that begins at 7:30 a.m. Registration will open at the beginning of school year Any student being dropped off prior to 8:40 needs to sign up NNMS has a variety of after school activities that take place throughout the school year (Fall, Winter, & Spring sessions) Homework Help Gardening Club Chess Club Fitness Gaming Athletic Teams: Fall: Cross Country, Volleyball Winter: Basketball & Soccer Spring: Track and Field 15
