  1. FACULTY SENATE 2017-2018 YEAR IN REVIEW Taine Duncan, President Rahul Mehta, Vice President/President Elect Amber Wilson, Secretary/Treasurer Steve Forbush, Parliamentarian

  2. COLLABORATIVE PROJECTS Civility Training with Staff Senate and SGA Working with IT Review Team for Audit and Collecting Campus Feedback Working with President Davis to Construct Qualities for Provost Ad Working with SGA on advising review, committees out of handbook, polling discussion, etc. Investiture Working with review for wellness plan, HealthCheck 360 review process Supporting Veteran s Day, Big Event, Out of the Woods Responding to faculty and staff concerns regarding the library Joint Senate Office Hours

  3. REPRESENTATIONAL WORK Senators invited to participate in the following high level searches: Wellness firm (Fall 2017) Teaching Evaluation Software (Summer 2017) AVP of International Engagement (Spring 2018 ongoing) CLA Dean Search (Spring 2018 ongoing) Representatives from Faculty Senate participated in the following high level searches: Chief of Police Search (Summer 2017 failed, but now Chief Merguie appointed) Dean of Students Search (Summer 2017 and Spring 2018) Provost Search (Fall 2017-Spring 2018) Representatives from Senate worked on important changes for the following committees: Faculty Salary Review Committee (Prioritization of CUPA, encouraging adjunct pay raises, new methods for survey) SBAC (New process for evaluating base budget proposals, separating year end funding proposals, first consideration of new faculty lines in SBAC0 Health and Wellness and EBAC (committee restructuring, incorporating new wellness plan and firm, etc.) Development of new working group for Retirement Planning and Consultation participated in review of firms, ongoing committee will now have future Senate presidents serving

  4. BUDGET WORK Vice President Newton giving regular and recurring updates on new budgeting and new budgeting processes including zero base, new SBAC plans, and capital goals Ongoing discussion with President, Provost, FSR, and BOT for developing plan to bring faculty salary close to CUPA this year, budget plans include move to 70% benchmark Information from Vice President Gober on Capital Campaign rollout and role of faculty in connecting with potential donors

  5. ORGANIZATIONAL EFFORTS Move from SurveyMonkey to Google Forms to save money and keep facultysenate@gmail record for future senate executives Move to form for collecting concerns and responses Training and collaboration with Staff Senate as they also transition to Google Forms for election processes Subcommittee work to structure and reorganize senate documentation online New protocol for annualized reports request feedback in advance of invitation to senate to better guide discussions Ongoing communication with IT during restructuring process thanks to Mike Lloyd

SENATE SUBCOMMITTEE WORK Faculty Affairs I Developed proposal for change to Board Policy 528, now under consideration for the May BOT meeting after executives working with President, Provost, and Legal Counsel Researched status of visiting faculty, collecting data from IR, Provost s Office, and Deans and Chairs directly; developed recommendation for 3 and Out Rule based on that data Faculty Affairs II Worked with Handbook, Staff Senate, SGA to determine committees inessential for Faculty Handbook; proposed a university level Committee on Committees accepted by those bodies and endorsed by proposed chair Chief of Staff Kelley Erstine Began auditing content for website organization and paper organization for storage in the library archives to ensure that future faculty senates have easier access to historical materials Academic Affairs Charge 1: Analyzed and Made an Extensive Report for IT Review Team on Faculty Concerns with IT and best practice suggestions Charge II: Met with advising, provost s office, students, conducted a faculty survey with Assessment, developed a report on advising best practices recommending a division of labor to support faculty in mentoring students
