Parents and carers need to be aware of the safety measures implemented for the full re-opening of schools in September. These include social distancing, staggered drop off and pick up times, regular handwashing, additional cleaning, no large gatherings, and individual equipment packs. Group (bubble) arrangements, classroom layouts, and play/lunchtime protocols are also detailed in the guidelines to ensure a safe learning environment.

  1. Full Re-opening of School in September What parents and carers need to know

  2. A list of the main measures to reduce risk Social distancing wherever possible Staggered drop off and pick up Regular handwashing routines and hand sanitiser stations Additional cleaning at the midday point Regular cleaning of touchpoints Staggered lunches and playtimes No gathering of large numbers of pupils e.g. no assemblies in the hall No mixing of groups wherever possible Individual packs of regularly used equipment Cleaning of shared equipment

  3. Drop off and Pick up There will be a staggered start and end to the day to support social distancing. These will be organised alphabetically by surname: 8:40 3:05 A-G 8:50 3:15 H-O 9:00 3:25 P-Z Any siblings with separate surnames should pick which slot they come in. Any parents bringing children from different families should arrive at the slot for their family name. One adult where possible. Please ensure you stick to your allocated times. Follow the one way systems (see route maps). Staff will be out to support this at the beginning. Do not gather in groups on playgrounds or paths.

  4. Groups in school (bubbles) Children no longer need to be in groups of 15 and will return to full class size groups with their new teachers. Class groups will usually be kept apart but for organisation of play and lunchtimes, one whole year group (2 classes) will be considered the maximum group size to be together. Adults in school can move between groups where necessary and take different groups e.g. for p.e. with Mr Allen or Art with Mrs Taylor Equipment can be shared within groups but anything shared between groups will be cleaned in between uses.

  5. Classrooms Classroom layout in the Early Years and Key Stage one will remain unchanged. Key Stage 2 children will be seated in front facing rows initially with a view to moving back to tables soon after. Children will have their own pack of equipment for things that are used regularly such as pens, pencils, rulers etc. Shared equipment needed occasionally will be cleaned and additional handwashing

  6. Play and Lunchtimes Playgrounds are split into zones One year group will play in each zone at any one time Zones will be rotated each week so that pupils get a turn in each zone Each group has its own set of play equipment Fixed play equipment e.g. outdoor gym is wiped down between groups Dining hall capacity is maximum of 2 groups at any time and seated in classes with gaps between groups and wiping down between sittings Key Stage 2 children who have packed lunches will eat in classrooms

  7. Snacks and Milk Milk is provided for all children in Nursery and Reception Milk can be paid for through the cool milk scheme as normal for all other pupils The Government fruit scheme will resume for all Early Years and Key Stage 1 children. Year 3 may purchase toast or bring in a healthy snack from the approved list. Upper school children may bring in a healthy snack from the approved list: A piece of fruit or vegetable Breadsticks Rice cakes Plain crackers with butter or cheese Cheese

  8. Personal Belongings and Book Bags Children are able to bring the essential personal items from home for their school day, including their book bags and backpacks etc. As usual, they should refrain from bringing unnecessary items such as toys. Reading books from home will be put in a special box for a minimum of 72 hours and sanitised before being put back into circulation for others to take home. Please ensure your child has a suitable coat (and other warm items as we progress to winter) as we will endeavour to be outdoors for playtime and P.E. even in the rain unless there is a downpour! Children from Year 1 upwards will now change for p.e. IT IS MORE ESSENTIAL THAN EVER THAT ALL CHILDREN S BELONGINGS ARE CLEARLY NAMED!

  9. Dowsons Den Full Dowson s Den provision will be back up and running before and after school. Children will be separated into groups: Early Years, Lower School and Upper School. It is recognised in the guidance that these will be additional bubbles where mixing cannot be avoided but should be reduced where possible, hence the splitting into 3 smaller groups rather than one big one. Groups will be allocated their own spaces for their provision to be delivered. The Dowson s Den team will sign children in and out at the Dowson s Den entrance (side door) for the time being as no adults are permitted into the building without prior arrangement.

  10. After School Clubs After School Clubs will be limited due to the usual nature being a mix of children which is currently not deemed to be necessary. Instead, we will offer one year group per night the opportunity of a place in a sports club. Usual rules apply 20 places, 1.50 per session and a draw for those who return the survey to Mrs Beever. Survey will be sent and places drawn in the last week of term so that you know whether you have been successful. Monday -Year 1 Multi-sports with Mr Allen Tuesday -Year 2 Multi-sports with Mr Allen Wednesday -Year 3 Multi-sports with Mr Allen Thursday -Year 4 Multi-sports with Mr Allen Friday -Year 5 Multi-sports with Mr Allen Friday -Year 6 Football with Mr Turner

  11. Trips and Visits Visits to local spaces and attractions that can be accessed on foot are the only ones permitted for now Trips and visits needing privately hired transport can not go ahead until the National alert level drops to 2 (apart from Swimming which is an essential part of the curriculum and carefully risk assessed).. Unfortunately the government guidance does not allow residential visits until further notice. This means that the rearranged Robinwood visit for September will not be able to go ahead. We are looking at how we might be able to still facilitate this within the Year 6 year for the current Year 5s that have missed it and will communicate the plans soon.
