  1. Choose an opening sequence from a film which effectively holds your interest and makes you want to watch the rest of the film. Show what elements of the opening sequence have this effect, and how they relate to the film as a whole.

  2. SCENE CAMERA WORK SOUND EFFECT ON AUDIENCE Close up on feet, face and the crosses. Long shot as he walks Patriotic music playing in the background, gets louder as he starts to get angry Makes the audience wonder who he is, feels his emotions and want to know what is happening PRESENT DAY Close up on soldiers faces and hands shaking, cannot see outside the boat. Long shot to see whole beach Battle noise, bullets, explosions, sound of the waves and men talking praying and shouting Makes the audience feel afraid about what will happen next, you don t know what is going on outside the boat. START OF THE BATTLE Slow motion movement around him. Close up on his face to let you see his fear and confusion. Camera looks past him and can see soldiers suffering and dying. High angle point of view shot as if German soldiers Sound is almost completely blocked out. There is a faint buzzing noise. It is almost like he is deaf and can t hear anything This makes you feel the same confusion as the Captain because you can t hear things and don t know properly what is happening. It makes you want him to pull himself together and save his life. CAPTAIN MILLER S CONFUSION Handheld cameras making it look like we are part of the action running along with the soldiers. Low angle shot looking up at German soldiers Bullets, explosions, men dying, soldiers shouting instructions to each other that you can hardly hear because the battle is so noisy. You feel that war is a terrible thing full of suffering which has a big effect on everyone who experiences it. You want the battle to end and then men to survive not matter what they have to do to ensure this. END OF THE BATTLE
