Time Limits Introduce challenge and listen and appraise examples of sporting routines and ceremony performances 1 lesson Begin planning a routine by thinking about instruments, choreography, music and costume 2 lessons Rehearse the routine, evaluating performance and fine-tuning aspects of the dance 2-3 lessons Perform the dance routine for parents, pupils, teachers and others in a celebration assembly and video the performance
Activity Breakdown 1. Introduce the challenge. 2. Watch video clips of other opening ceremony performance examples and fill in the appraisal sheet. 3. Discuss key vocabulary and themes for a Welsh themed dance. 4. Allocate roles and responsibilities to class members dancers, choreographers, musicians, recorders, fashion designers etc. 5. Plan the choreography routine using ideas from pupils in the class and by watching other examples. 6. Decide on accompanying music, instruments and costume. 7. Rehearse the performance thoroughly, fine-tuning aspects where necessary. 8. Perform the dance to the whole school during a special celebration assembly. 9. Record the performance and tweet it to @FAWTrust.
