  2. Some things you might be wondering about! Hybrid learning begins on: March 15th-For in-person students in grades K-3 April 6th-For in-person students in grades Pre-K, 4, & 5 Not all staff will be returning to the building. Students will remain with their homeroom teachers but might be in a class supervised by another teacher. Daly ES school hours change on March 15thto 9:25 a.m.-3:50 p.m. This is for ALL students in-person & virtual. Food distribution will continue at various sites, and MCPS Central Offices will continue to share out information regarding any change in the schedule or site locations. The Daly ES site will close. Important information: March 8this a professional development day-no school for students. March 9 & 10 are asynchronous learning days. Spring break is from March 29th-April 5th School ends on June 16th YES-we will host a summer school experience.

  3. Classroom Set Up and PPE in all classrooms Classrooms are set up for 12 children in a classroom. Students designated areas are spaced 6-feet apart, and students will be monitored and reminded to stay 6- feet apart from their classmates. Students coming into the classroom will be provided a basket to keep their materials and materials will not be shared amongst the students. PPE will be provided for students and staff, and mask wearing is required. This includes when students ride a bus. We know this will be challenging for our youngest learners, and we will provide frequent reminders. I HIGHLY suggest you begin to have your child wear a mask for longer periods of time. There will be frequent deep-cleaning of all parts of the building, including classrooms and bathrooms, frequently. Hand sanitizing/hand washing stations and wipes will be available to support efforts to minimize risk of infection. Air purifiers are in classrooms and hallways are marked so students and staff stay socially distant. Students will have opportunities to play outside if weather permits, and hand washing/sanitizing will occur before and after outside play. Masks are required for outside play as well. Students will be provided masks, and can bring them from home. Gaiter and scarves are NOT allowed.

  4. Health Room Support Students that sustain minor injuries and need first aid will be taken to the health room, and the parent called to notify of the injury. Students that exhibit symptoms that may be COVID related will be screened by health room staff and will be monitored in another area of the main school s office until a parent can be notified and the student can be picked up by a parent/guardian. We must have current contact information. Should a student or staff member test positive for COVID, or need to quarantine due to being exposed to someone diagnosed with COVID, there will be a protocol that will be followed and we will follow the protocol details from MCPS. At this time, there is no screening (ex., temperature checks) for students upon entering the building. If your child is sick to please keep them home. We expect you will have a plan in case your child gets sick at school and needs to be picked up in a timely manner. Staff members will be asked to complete a self-screening upon entering the building and will have to note the entry and exit times.

  5. Timeline and Parent Communication Parents received an email communication via Synergy/Connect-ed email and/or a text that confirms the parent preference from the parent survey completed in December. If a parent did not complete the survey, then their preference defaults to virtual only. Parents have until Sunday, February 28th, to email Mrs. Jones directly if they want to submit a request to change their preference. Parents can email Heather_L_Jones@mcpsmd.org with the request. Requests to change from virtual to in-person learning will not be accepted between March 1stand March 12th, as this is a blackout period when schools are finalizing their opening plans and transportation is finalizing the bus routes. Requests to switch from virtual only to in-person learning will be taken into consideration based upon classroom capacity. If the capacity of the classroom is full for the sessions, then the student can be placed on a waiting list in case an opening occurs. Parents will be notified after March 1stif their request can be accommodated. Requests to change from in person to virtual can be made at any time. During the week of March 8th, classroom teachers will reach out to families about schedule changes.

  6. Pre-Kindergarten Pre-K students, whose parents have chosen in-person learning, will start on April 6. As a reminder, March 15th,the school day sessions shift to 9:25 a.m. to 11:55 a.m. and 1:20 p.m. to 3:50 p.m. for both in-person learning and virtual learning. Virtual and in-person school days will be Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, with Wednesdays remaining virtual for all students. Students whose parents have chosen in-person learning will arrive in the morning and receive their breakfast in their classrooms. They will receive virtual instruction from Mrs. Kelley. Ms. Kober will be the adult support in the classroom. Students will receive a bagged lunch and bagged snack/dinner to take home with them. Students should bring to school their Chromebook and chargers, materials, and a change of clothes. Students should also bring a water bottle, as the water fountains will not be turned on. Mrs. Kelley will be in contact with pre-k families about transportation.

  7. Grades K-5 Re-Opening Plans On March 15th, kindergarten through third grade students, whose parents have chosen in-person learning, will return to the building Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Wednesdays will remain virtual for all students. Fourth and Fifth grade students, whose parents have chosen in-person learning, will return to the building beginning on April 6th. Grade 4 & 5 special education students who receive 15 hours or more of service on their IEPs can return to the building four days per week starting on March 15th. Their services will primarily be delivered virtually through Zoom by the service providers while they are in the building. Mrs. Wright is reaching out to parents.

  8. What will virtual learning look like? Students whose parents chose virtual learning will continue to receive instruction as they have been with their current teachers via Zoom. The daily schedule will change due to the shift in the school day hours, but the content will remain the same. Students will have their lunch/wellness break at home from 11:55-1:25 pm. There will be continued support in virtual classrooms by paraeducators and non-classroom based teachers via Zoom. Staff will also be supporting the in-person learning and monitoring students for safety while they are in the school building. Special education students will continue to receive the support and interventions from their current service providers. General education students who currently are receiving interventions may continue to receive those interventions, though there may be a shift or change to the schedules. The staff member implementing the interventions will communicate with the parents if there is a change to schedule.

  9. What will in-person learning be like? The student day for ALL students, both in person and virtual, will shift to an instructional day of 9:25 a.m. to 3:50 p.m., on March 15th. The daily schedules and special schedules for art, music, and PE will be adjusted and the classroom teacher will communicate directly to parents the new schedule. The doors will open to students coming to the building at 9:00 a.m., via outside entrances, Car Rider Loop, and by bus. We will have staff available to support students entering the building. We are aware that students have possibly never been in the building or haven t been in the building in a long time. Our staff will support each student to ensure the student arrives safely to the student s classroom. Parents and guardians will not be permitted to enter the school building. If a parent needs to speak to the office staff, office staff will meet them in the vestibule area. We are also going to put a table in the vestibule area for parent drop off of materials or lunches. Please be sure these items are clearly marked with the students name. Students should bring their Chromebooks and chargers daily, as they will be learning through their Zoom class, just as they have from home. In some cases, the classroom teacher will be present in the classroom and will teach the class via Zoom, both to the students at home leaning virtually and to the students in the classroom. Students should also bring their math and reading workbooks and materials, along with personal reading books, composition books to draw in, pencils, crayons, scissors, etc. Materials cannot be shared.

  10. In-Person Learning continued.. Students will receive art, music, and PE instruction. Students who receive special education or ESOL services, and other related services such as speech, physical therapy, and occupational therapy, will continue to receive those sessions virtually. Students will be offered a bagged breakfast each morning, and have the option of bringing a lunch from home or ordering a bagged lunch at school. Students may also receive a snack/supper bag to take home at the end of the day. Students should bring water bottles as the water fountains are turned off. Please do not send snacks with students. Students will have support from other school staff who will be checking into each classroom throughout the day. Students will have a lunch/wellness break from 11:55-1:25 daily. During this time, there will be a rotation for classes that includes lunch in the classroom or the cafeteria, a physical break outside (with weather permitting), and a quiet break in the classroom, read, draw, watch a video, or participate in a mindfulness activity. More information to come on specific dismissal procedures at the end of the day for walkers, Car Rider students, and bus riders. We ask for your patience because students will be dismissed in an orderly manner from classrooms.
