Meeting the Mentors and Mentees Pre- Employment Transition Services Clevon Biggs, Business Enterprise of Mississippi Entrepreneur Clevon Biggs was born in Chicago Illinois and moved to Mississippi was he was very young. He went to several schools before he attended Mississippi School for the Blind in the 6th grade. While at the school for the blind he was a student ambassador and the student council president during his senior year. He was also active in the band, wrestling MSB in 2014 and went to Hinds Community College on a full band scholarship. He also attended William Carey University on a full band scholarship. Clevon was also a NFB career mentor. In 2019, he chose a different career path and became an entrepreneur with the Business Enterprise Program.
Meeting the Mentors and Mentees Pre- Employment Transition Services Harley Acy, NFB Mentee Harley Acy graduated from MSB in 2020. She started attending MSB when she was in the 2nd grade and she is now 21 years old. While attending MSB she was very active as a student ambassador and student council president. She participated in extracurricular activities such as choir, show choir, cheerleading and band just to name a few. When she completed school at MSB, she went to Blind Inc. in Minnesota for adjustment to blindness training. She is the student board vice president at Blind Inc., and recently completed her training and graduated on October 1, 2021. Since completing her training Harley has been offered a job to work for Blind Inc. as a Travel Assistant. Harley is very passionate about working with children in poverty and foster care. She is also interested community outreach. She became a member of NFB in 2018 and has done several seminars and attended NFB conventions. Harley is also interested in the faith based community and said her purpose is God is to use her to help others.
MS NFB Peer Mentoring Data Pre- Employment Transition Services In 2018, we had 15 clients who joined Peer Mentoring. Of the 15 participants who joined in 2018: 2 have completed structured discovery training 2 are BEP vendors 4 are currently in post-secondary training 1 just completed an internship last month 1 is employed 2 graduated from post-secondary training and currently are working.
MS NFB Peer Mentoring Data Pre- Employment Transition Services In 2019 we had 6 clients who joined Peer Mentoring. Of the 6 participants who joined in 2019: 4 are in post-secondary training.
MS NFB Peer Mentoring Data Pre- Employment Transition Services In 2020 we had 3 clients who joined Peer Mentoring. Of the number of participants who joined in 2020: 1 is currently in structured discovery training 1 is in post-secondary training
MS NFB Peer Mentoring Data Pre- Employment Transition Services In 2021 we had 6 clients who joined Peer Mentoring. Of the 6 participants who joined in 2021: 1 is a high school senior 1 is home schooled 2 graduated high school in 2021 3 are in college
