The New Routes PSP is a Scottish Government-funded partnership delivered by The Wise Group, SACRO, Turning Point Scotland, Apex, SAMH, and Families Outside. It aims to reduce reoffending through mentoring to develop motivation, life skills, and address criminogenic needs, in five stages from engagement to aftercare. A CRM system tracks individual progress for future benchmarks. The program offers 12 months of mentoring support, access to specialist partners, and guidance for individuals approaching release from prison to improve life opportunities by addressing various needs.

  2. New Routes PSP The New Routes PSP is a Scottish Government funded partnership, delivered throughout Scotland by The Wise Group (Lead Organisation), SACRO, Turning Point Scotland and Apex, with specialist support partners SAMH (Mental Health) and Families Outside (Families).

  3. New Routes PSP The basis of the New Routes PSP was set out in the main application document submitted for consideration titled Reducing Reoffending - a Scotland wide approach The mentoring relationship will aim to develop motivation, attitudes and life skills; build capacity at individual, family and community levels; and address the individual s criminogenic needs.

  4. New Routes PSP The PSP application described the main aim of this service in five stages, as follows: Stage 1: Engage & Motivate Stage 2: Assess, Plan & Prepare Stage 3: Support & Divert Stage 4: Sustain & Progress Stage 5: Next Steps Planning & Aftercare

  5. New Routes PSP A New Routes CRM has been designed to collect data on the assessed needs of each individual customer, the activities they participate in and the outcomes achieved. This will allow for a full analysis of the proportion of service users who are making progress against their assessed criminogenic needs and have the potential to allow for benchmarks and targets to be set in the future around these.

  6. New Routes PSP The New Routes PSP delivers a voluntary Mentoring service to customers approaching release from Prison. We work with customers to improve life opportunities through addressing a range of needs identified throughout the journey including: Physical health, Mental health, Addictions, Accommodation, Relationships, Finance, Employment, Training & Education and Attitudes & Behaviours

  7. New Routes PSP What we offer our customers: 12 months of mentoring support Continual Mentoring, support and guidance from their allocated Mentor Mentoring support delivered by Mentors, some of whom have personal experience of offending and/or recovery Access to specialist support partners, as well as support to engage with identified mainstream support

New Routes PSP Our eligibility: Service offered to customers aged 16+ (recent change from 16-25) in Prison Short Term Prisoners (serving 4 years or less sentences) Not engaging with Statutory support services We do not work with sex offenders, schedule 1 offenders, customers on SRO or LTP/recalls

New Routes PSP The Journey: Journey begins up to 6 months pre-release Regular visits to prepare for release Up to 12 months support from journey start date Gate liberation provided (If required) Mentoring support/advocacy on a weekly basis to address identified needs (minimum service standard) Exit planning to ensure support continued, if required

New Routes PSP Our focus: Developing positive relationships between Mentor and customer Creating improved links to, and supporting to engage with, support services, both in Prison and the Community Creating opportunities to increase capacity in our customers Improving life opportunities for our customers

  11. New Routes PSP Creating better links with Integrated Adult Services: Improved knowledge and understanding of the service(s) and the work we carry out on New Routes Improved referral routes into both New Routes and IAS, if possible Utilise specialism of both services and ensure non duplication of work Open dialogue on how we can best work together for the benefit of our customers

  12. New Routes PSP In numbers: We have worked with over 4,000 since 2013 75% of our customers continue to engage post liberation 88% of those customers engage with additional support services 73% of those customers have evidenced improvements in their situations
