  20. SCHOOL COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS Partnership in the school context My definition: When two (or more) groups come together for the common good of a school or to increase student opportunity and enhance learning Formal versus informal partnership

  21. WHY PARTNER IN YOUR WORK? Engage organizations who are an expert in something you are not Additional funding = long term sustainability Additional staffing = more touch points for students and families Working together to achieve common goals that boost both (all) organizations Shared ownership of programs & services Localized, specific solutions to your communities' challenges

  22. SCHOOL COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS MOVE AT THE SPEED OF TRUST A critically important, but often overlooked step to building any partnership is taking time to build a trusting relationship Get to know each organizations mission, vision, and goals as well as services they are currently providing Knowing where your organizations overlap in all the above Falling back on trust if at first try you do not succeed Open communication and yes in your heart

  23. WHERE DO I START? Dig into the resources available! Decades of work from the National Center for Community Schools, and the Coalition for Community Schools. Ask Idaho Coalition for Community Schools for help Convene a group of leaders in your school community you need school staff, district leadership, parents, community members at the table Understand the need conduct a needs assessment and map the unique assets/strengths that exist in your community Understand what programs/services are already in place and how they can be better aligned to meet your specific goals.
