  10. ACADEMIC CALENDAR YEAR UG programs have 3 academic periods: Fall and Spring semesters = 14 + 1 fall/spring breaks + 2 weeks of final exams Academic Calendar sets out the school year and is approved by the NU Academic Council Summer term = 8 weeks + 3 days of final exams

  11. CREDITS NU uses the ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System) credit system Credit load Fall/Spring Min = 24 ECTS (avr. 3-4 courses registered) Max = 36 ECTS (avr. 5-6 courses registered) Summer (optional) Min = 2 ECTS Max = 16 ECTS

  12. ATTENDANCE Attendance is mandatory at NU students are expected to attend all classes (including online classes)

  13. INTERNAL TRANSFER Check School handbooks or contact Academic Advising Office to see what is required to be eligible to transfer Transfers will occur between the posting of final grades and start of the next semester Students are allowed to transfer between Schools and/or majors

  14. TRANSFER of CREDITS from OUTSIDE UNIVERSITY NUFYP course work cannot be transferred into any UG program Credit for courses taken at other accredited Higher Education Institution may be transferred to a student s University record. Transferred courses are graded with a TC grade. Only courses with English language of instruction can be transferred All credits must be approved by the School to which the course belongs

  15. GRADING SYSTEM Letter grading Administrative Grades A - Excellent; exceeds the highest standards in the assignment or course A- - B+ - D - F - Failing; very poor performance AU - Audit AW Administrative Withdrawal I - Incomplete IP In Progress TC Transfer Credit W - Withdrawal

  16. DEANS LIST Students who achieve a 3.75 GPA or above are eligible to be placed on the Dean s list This recognition will be posted in the student s transcript at the end of any semester in which it is awarded

  17. MID-SEMESTER STATUS REPORTS Normally, mid-semester assessments take place by 6-7thweek of the semester Mid-semester grades are not permanent and are kept only until final course grades are recorded Non-Satisfactory (NS) a student who is at a C- or below with attendance problems and other issues that may keep the student from successfully completing the courses. Course withdrawal may be recommended. Satisfactory (S) a student who is at a minimum C or above with excellent attendance

  18. GPA CALCULATION Grade points are calculated by multiplying the number of credits by the grade points of the grade awarded for each course The Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) is computed by dividing the sum of the earned grade points by the total graded credits attempted in the whole period of study Your Academic Status is based on your Cumulative GPA

ACADEMIC STATUS Academic Good Standing Academic Warning Academic Probation Students cannot be on more than 3 probation semesters in total during their studies or they will be subject to dismissal from NU Mid-Term status report - 3 or more NS grades CGPA and semGPA above 2.00 End of semester GPA below 2.00

  20. APPEAL of GRADES Error in calculation Error in application of the class grade policy as presented in the Course Syllabus ONLY 4 Reasons for appeal Incorrect entry of the grade into the database Incomplete marking of an assessment

  21. ACADEMIC PROGRESS University expects students to complete the degree requirements within the defined program period Student must average 30 ECTS per semester Student who falls 30 or more ECTS behind will be subject to dismissal

  22. FINAL EXAMINATIONS If you have more than 2, go to your course instructors to have it adjusted Final exam period check the Academic calendar Maximum 2 exams per day

  23. COMPLETION OF DEGREE Students must successfully complete all the Program Requirements Student must have a minimum 2.00 GPA Students must have a minimum 240 ECTS Students must successfully complete all the University Requirements Students cannot have any outstanding Incompletes or IP grades

  24. GRADUATION Every year at the end of the Spring Semester NU holds Graduation Ceremony for all graduating students Only students who have met ALL the degree requirements are invited to the ceremony

  25. GRADUATION WITH HONORS Distinction CGPA is equal to 4.00 (out of 4.00) Summa Cum Laude CGPA is equal to 3.90 to 3.99 Magna Cum Laude CGPA is equal to 3.80 to 3.89 Cum Laude CGPA is equal to 3.67 to 3.79

  27. WITHDRAWAL FROM THE UNIVERSITY A student willing to withdraw from NU shall fill out the application for voluntary withdrawal on MyRegistrar Then collect all the required approvals and wait until the Order is signed and registered

  28. DISMISSAL FROM THE UNIVERSITY (Academic) failure to maintain adequate CGPA or GPA failure to maintain satisfactory progress towards the degree failure to complete specific course requirements of the student s program of study and/or the inability to transfer to any other School or major failure to register for the minimum number of credits by the Add Course deadline indicated in the corresponding Academic Calendar for that semester, unless approved by the Dean and VPAA failure to maintain continuous registration

  29. DISMISSAL FROM THE UNIVERSITY (Disciplinary) failure to attend the first week of classes without approval of the Dean/Vice Dean of the appropriate School failure to attend the required Orientation session for new students without approval from the Dean/Vice Dean of the appropriate School failure to attend the required number of classes on the grounds specified in the Student Code of Conduct and Disciplinary Procedures of the University deliberate submission of the false documents or misleading information during the admission process or during the studies

  30. DISMISSAL FROM THE UNIVERSITY (Financial & Other) violation of obligations on payment of tuition or other expenses by student failure to sign Student Contract by the announced deadline violation of the University s internal regulations or other internal documents regulating admission and organization of the educational process of the University, including student handbooks other reasons provided by the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan and internal documents of the University

  31. ACADEMIC DOCUMENTS The Office of the Registrar provides all the Enrollment verifications and Official transcripts Documents have a 3-day processing period Documents can be received in English/Kazakh/Russian languages All the documents are ordered online

  33. Can another person pick up my documents? Yes. Send an email with the name of the person that person must bring his/her ID to pick up the documents (on-campus) No. You can request a scanned copy of your documents or order postal delivery to your address by your own cost (off campus)

  34. How long does it take to receive documents? There is a THREE WORKING DAY processing period for all academic documents (on-campus) It could take more than three days under current circumstances (off campus)

  35. Can I get the original IELTS certificate that I turned in during my admission? NO. You may request a new certificate directly from IELTS center NOTE: All documents and other materials submitted by applicants in connection with their application for admission to the Program become the property of the University and are subject to the University s rules and regulations concerning confidentiality

  36. Could you state the amount of stipend in my Enrollment Verification letter? NO any official statements about your stipend must be requested directly from the Bursar s Office

  37. Can you state that the language of instruction at NU is in English? YES, it is indicated in the official transcripts and enrollment verifications
