  2. This session, the final subjects have moved to Canvas from the previous Learning Management System (LMS), Blackboard (also known as UTSOnline). A welcome announcement sets the stage for continued, positive interactions between you and your students. It also: This means that all teaching and learning for both Postgraduate and Undergraduate subjects will be in Canvas from now on. Helps students become familiar with both you and the subject Can save you time by not having to field multiple emails with questions Undergraduate students who previously accessed their subject materials in Blackboard (UTSOnline) will now need to access these in Canvas. You can help notify students about the change by posting a welcome announcement in Canvas. We ve provided a suggested template you can use.

Recommended structure for welcome message Suggested template on the following slide for subjects that have moved to Canvas Greeting Introduce yourself, the subject, and the purpose of the welcome message. You may choose to link to or include more biographical information here, otherwise be sure to provide a little more background about yourself. How to access subject learning material Include information about Canvas and how they use it. We suggest you include a link to the Canvas Student Guide on UTS website. Set expectations Provide students with an outline of what to expect in the subject to avoid uncertainty later. Support & troubleshooting Let students know how they can ask subject related questions, and remind them to seek support for Canvas technical queries via the options in the Canvas Help menu. Next Steps or Tips for Success Explain how students can be successful in the subject and the online environment, and how they can prepare before session commences. Contact details Provide information on how students can contact you. (A welcome message should be separate from the subject outline, which contains more detailed information about the course expectations, learning objectives, assessment dates etc.)

  4. Welcome announcement for Subjects that have moved to Canvas Hello and welcome to <subject name and ID>. My name is <X> and I will be your Subject Coordinator for this subject. Over the last year, we ve moved all subjects to Canvas from the previous learning management system, Blackboard (also known as UTSOnline) toprovide a more user friendly and intuitive learning experience for you. From this session onwards, Canvas is your dedicated learning management system, where you will access subject learning material, get subject announcements, complete class activities, receive feedback and collaborate with your peers. What s different about Canvas? Canvas is user friendly with intuitive design and cleaner page layouts, making it easier to find what you re looking for and providing a better connected learning experience. Getting started Log into canvas.uts.edu.au with your studentID and UTS password to experience your new online learning space. You can also download the Canvas app for your mobile device from the Google Play store or App store. Getting help Information on how to navigate and use Canvas is available in the Student Canvas Guide and short learning video on the UTS website. For queries or support, you can use the 24/7 Canvas online help, contact the Student Centre or visit the Student Learning Hub in UTS Central. If you have any login issues, you will need to contact IT Support Centre on +61 2 9514 2222 or log an IT request via ServiceConnect. Before we commence the subject, here is some information and hints to help you prepare This subject focuses on (mention aim and learning objectives, connect relevance of the subject to real-world examples). Week one starts on <date>. You will find all subject learning material, including information on assessments on this Canvas site. Submission of assessments, and all assessment feedback will also take place online through this Canvas site. It is important that you regularly check the subject site for any new resources and important announcements. It s recommended you keep the default notification preferences in place so that you don t miss any important announcements. The Subject Outline can be accessed via the link from the main menu. Please ensure you have thoroughly read this outline so you know what is expected.
