The Arctic

By Ruth Kenny

Geography

The Arctic is located at the northernmost part of the of our planet
the world.
The Arctic consists of the Arctic Ocean and parts of Canada, Russia,
the USA, Greenland, Norway, Finland, Sweden and Iceland.
For at lest one day a year there`s an entire day of darkness in this
area.
Four million people call the Arctic their wintery wonderland home
some of the people of the Arctic are called Inuits.

Igloos or Cosy Iceboxes

When the Inuits are on hunting trips, they build igloos as temporary
(for a short time) homes.
Although they are made from frozen blocks of ice and loose snow
they are cosy and warm inside.
Earlier this week, I watched Fireman Sam with Luke and they were
building Igloos

Animal Life in the Arctic

The Arctic is home to lots of wildlife.
There are Arctic Foxes, Polar Bears, Walrus, seals, snowy owls and
whales

Snowy Owls

Their feet are covered with
feathers, like fluffy slippers.
Their wingspan is 4-5 feet on
average.

Narwhal

Narwhals are only found in the
Arctic area
The Narwhal is called the
“Unicorn of the Sea” because
they have a straight tusk that can
grow to 3Metres long.

Polar Bears

King of the Ice.

The poplar bear is the largest
and most powerful hunter in the
Arctic.
They are excellent swimmers
and spend lots of time in
freezing water
Oily fur and a layer blubber (fat)
keeps polar bears warm

My Drawing of a Polar Bear

Hardanger Fiddle

The Hardanger Fiddle is a string
instrument.
It is like the violin but has 8 or 9
strings and its wood is lighter.
The fiddler taps his foot when
playing his hardanger fiddle so
people can dance.
