Examples of recent cooperation Critical Arctic Studies UArctic Thematic Network Joint event with University of Alaska-Fairbanks on Language Hegemony in Arctic Research Researcher exchange (made possible through funding provided by the US embassy in Helsinki) Future exchanges currently being planned, including through the Finnish American Research and Innovation Accelerator (FARIA). 3
Selected ongoing projects AROSS (2019-2024), Arctic Rain on Snow Study , funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) Biocultural Adaptations in a Rapidly Changing Arctic (2022- 2024), coordinated by Notre Dame University, Indiana, funded by the NSF and the Arctic Centre CHARTER (2020-2024): Drivers and Feedbacks of Changes in Arctic Terrestrial Biodiversity, funded by EU Horizon 2020 - Research and Innovation Framework Programme. Governing Arctic Urban Sustainability through the lens of the UN s Sustainable Development Goals Joint Anthropology project with Boise State U, funded by the NSF s Navigating the New Arctic (NAA) programme 4
Institutionalising Cooperation with US partners Arctic Centre staff members play an active role in the work of the Finnish American Research and Innovation Accelerator (FARIA) and FARIA s Interdisciplinary Arctic Research Interest Group (www.faria.network) and in other networks, including the American Society of International Law (www.asil.org), the Bermuda to Bear Island (www.b2biresearch.com), and the International Disaster, Emergencies and Law Network (www.disasterlaw.net), to give just a few examples. Through these efforts, personal connections between researchers are maintained and the cooperation is strengthened in order to also ensure the inclusion of the next generation of researchers. research initiative 5
