  3. Snack Time Each grade level will be allowed to have a snack time during the school day. Please ensure healthy snacks that are easy to eat and not messy are sent to school with your child each day if you wish for them to participate. This includes anything low in fat and sugar. For example: Granola bars Graham crackers Trail mix Pretzels Dry cereal Goldfish Grapes/apples etc. Carrots/Celery etc. Students will also be allowed to have a water bottle with them during class. We recommend one with a sport top cap to prevent spills. Please be mindful of students with nut allergies. Although we are not a nut-free campus, some students do have severe allergies.

We celebrate birthdays near the end of recess, about 1:50 p.m. Please check with us for our class sizes, as they change frequently throughout the school year. 12. Edmodo & Schoolwires We use a combination of Edmodo, planners/agendas and the district teacher websites (Schoolwires) to keep students and their parents informed about due dates, special events, and more. By now, you have received a secure class code from both of your child's teachers. Students need only one Edmodo account, but they will join both classes. Once your student has an account, you can get a parent account. Please us know if you need any help signing up!

  13. We are preparing our students for the rigorous demands of sixth grade. There will be a mix of predictable assignments and special projects. In addition, there will be tests, quizzes, and class assignments to study for. All homework assignments will be thoroughly explained in class, written in student planners, and/or posted on Edmodo and Schoolwires. Teachers will be happy to answer questions in class each day. Different children work at different paces. However, as long as students manage their time, home- work is designed to take no more than 1 hour. Reading Logs will be due every Tuesday. Math homework will be assigned Monday through Thursday to master material taught in class. When needed, math homework will be assigned over the weekend. Long-term projects will be assigned two to three weeks before they are due. Major grade tests will be announced about 2 weeks in advance.

  14. Technology Technology As technology advances and changes, we continue to see it impact education in new ways. In order to prepare today's student for the jobs of tomorrow, we incorporate technology in many of our activities. Fort Bend ISD has a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) policy which allows students to use their own smart phones, iPads, and tablets in class for educational purposes. We are fortunate to have 60 iPads in fifth grade, which we share. If your son or daughter brings his or her own device to school, he or she will be responsible for it and must use it as directed. We do many fun projects and lots of research using our iPads in fifth grade. You may see some homework activities assigned that require a computer and/or internet access. Please allow your child to use the technology available in your home in order to complete these assignments.

  15. Student Expectations Our team is looking forward to another great year in 5thgrade, here is how you can help.
