PROFESSIONAL REGISTRATION VALUE CHAIN First Port of Entry into the Teaching Profession through Professional Registration Screening Against the National Child Protection Register SACE Professional Registration Screening against the National Register of Sexual Offenders Foreign Qualification Evaluation, Comparison against the NQF and Verification National Qualifications Verification FIT-TO- TEACH/PRACTICE STATUS AND DSD DoJC SAQA (QCs) GOOD PROFESSIONAL STANDING IN THE TEACHING PROFESSION Qualification Evaluation System for Employment in Public Schools Gazetted List of Scarce and Critical Skills for the Country Foreign Nationals Police Clearance From Country of Origin - 1st time Registration Letter of Professional Standing from the teaching Council, such as TCZ. DHET DHA SAPS Critical and Scarce Skills Visa Work Permit National Police Clearance

PROVISIONAL REGISTRATION: STUDENT TEACHERS All new applications to be submitted via the e-gov portal (www.eservices.gov.za) All documents must be saved in PDF and named accordingly e.g. ID copy Note that Provisional registration of student teachers by SACE is Not for employment purposes ID Copy ( both side of the ID if it is a smart ID card) A valid passport and permit for Non SA citizens Matric certificate ( O&A levels if obtained outside South Africa) SAQA evaluation report for all qualifications received outside SA A valid Police Clearance Certificate (not a name clearance) not older than months from the date of issue Proof of current registration with a South African University, on the University letter and with a University stamp Proof od payment for registration fee (R200 SA citizens & R400 for non -SA Citizens All copies must be recently certified ( not older than six months)

SPECIAL CATEGORY OF REGISTRATION The special category of registration includes: TVET Lectures, AET practitioners, ECD practitioners, Religious Educators, teachers at Montessori and Waldorf schools, Music Teachers ( Performing Arts), Psychiatrists and Therapists applicants applying under this category should have the relevant and recognised qualifications with 360 credits and more These educators are issued with a certificate for special category ( From June 2020). The certificate does not need to be renewed. This certificate is not the same as the one for professionally qualified teachers ECD practitioners with ECD level 5 ( 240 credits) are issue with the certificate for special category ECD practitioners with Level 4 (120 credits) are issued with a letter for 3 years on condition that they will submit the Level 5 For registration requirements, visit the SACE website on www.sace.org.za.

PROVISIONAL REGISTRATION OF STUDENT TEACHERS-POST GRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN EDUCATION ( PGCE) All new applications to be submitted via the e-gov portal (www.eservices.gov.za) All documents must be saved in PDF and named accordingly e.g. ID copy Note that Provisional registration of student teachers by SACE is Not for employment purposes ID Copy ( both side of the ID if it is a smart ID card) Or A valid passport and permit for Non SA citizens Matric certificate ( O&A levels if obtained outside South Africa), SAQA evaluation report for all qualifications received outside SA A valid Police Clearance Certificate (not a name clearance) not older than months Junior qualification certificate ( academic qualification) together with a complete academic record for the Junior qualification indicating that the qualification has been completed and have relevant credits Proof of current registration for PGCE with a South African University, on the University letter and with a University stamp Proof od payment for registration fee (R200 SA citizens & R400 for non -SA Citizens All copies must be recently certified ( not older than six months)

  8. CONDITIONAL REGISTRATION VS SPECIAL CATEGORY OF REGISTRATION Conditional registration refers to registration of applicants who are academically qualified but professionally unqualified. This is an interim measure and Council is in the process of phasing it out Applicants applying for conditional registration are registered with a to study and complete a PGCE within a period of two years. Failure to meet these requirements will result in their registration being cancelled. Conditional registered teachers are issued with a registration letter valid for a period of two years Special category refers to registration of teachers who specialise in specify areas of their study They are not required to study for a PGCE They are issued with a certificate for special category binding them to a field of study Certificate does not have an expiry date They cannot teach any subjects outside the areas of specialisation.

REGISTRATION OF FOREIGN CITIZENS A SAQA evaluation report is required for all qualifications obtained outside South Africa including O & A Levels SACE is currently accommodating foreign citizens with relevant and valid permits all permits are verified with the Department of Home Affairs before registration We have been receiving a lot of fraudulent permits from Non SA citizens We encourage all employers to verify the qualifications, SAQA evaluation reports and permits with relevant government departments All SACE registration documents must be verified with SACE Registration fee for Non SA citizens with SACE is R400(New Applications) and R50 for update

REQUEST FOR LETTER OF GOOD STANDING MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTS: A fully completed application form (signed and dated) SACE application form can be downloaded from www.sace.org.za under registration Formal Letter of request from the applicant Current Testimonial Letter from a school in South Africa ( not older than 3 months) Identity Document ( both side if it is a smart ID card) Proof of payment for R400 request fee ( banking details are on the website under About Us ) No letter will be issued if membership fees are outstanding. To check the balance go to the website under Pay Here Copy of Valid South African Police Clearance certificate from SAPS All copies must be recently certified and submitted in PDF

MONTHLY SUBSCRIPTION FEES TO SACE All teachers ( not student teachers) registered with SACE must pay membership / annual fee Current fees are R180 per annum and R15.00 monthly All queries related to finance must be forwarded to revenue@sace.org.za To check the outstanding balance visit the SACE website on www.sace.org.za, click on Pay Here and follow the instructions As soon Student teachers changes status to full registration, monthly subscriptions fees must be paid.

FEES PAYABLE TO SACE New registration R200 ( SA citizens) New Registration R400 ( Non SA citizens) Updates: R50.00 both SACE and Non SA citizens Request for a duplicate SACE certificate: R50.00 Letter of Good Standing : R400.00 all membership fees must be up to date before letter of good standing is issued.
