  3. What is your reaction to the video s statement about the consequences of chronic absence missing 18 days of school over the course of a year, or just 2-3 days each month? A scholastic month is 20 school days.

  4. Why is attendance so important? The overall educational success of your child is dependent upon their sustained daily attendance. What is chronically absent mean? In Alabama, a child is absent a total of 15 or more days. This includes excused & unexcused absences.

  5. How to Promote Good Attendance Early preparation for school Good breakfast at home or school Sufficient sleep Proper Hygiene Preventative actions from sickness/germs Scheduling events after school

  6. Attendance and Truancy Attendance is a behavior, either observed or learned. Keep your child s education a priority. Our goal is to help keep families out of Juvenile Court for truancy.

  7. Talladega County Code of Conduct & Attendance Student Responsibilities Are: To be punctual and regular in attendance. To abide by laws and local board of education and individual school rules and policies regarding attendance. Turn in excuses to the school within 3 days upon returning from an absence. To promptly request and complete make-up assignments for all absences or tardies.

  8. Excuses Parents are allowed 10 parent excuses per year. Unlimited amount of legal or medical excuses. All excuses should include: The child s name Date to be excused Reason for the absence Phone number to parent/guardian Parent/Doctor signature with current date

  9. Notifications Parents will receive a Robocall, text, and Email for EVERY absence. This is subject to accurate records in enrollment information. Parents can change as needed online. On the third, fifth, and seventh cumulative unexcused absence, a Robocall, text, & Email will be sent to notify parents. These are critical levels of the truancy process that require the school system to take additional actions.

  10. Truancy 1st Unexcused Absence: Robocall, text, and Email to Parent or Guardian 3rd Unexcused Absence: Robocall, text, and Email to Parent or Guardian Letter to schedule Required Parent Conference with school administrators

  11. 5th Unexcused Absence: Robocall, text, and Email to Parent or Guardian Referral to Early Warning Placed on TCBOE District Watch list Note: A child will only go to Early Warning one time in their educational career within Talladega County, including city schools. 7th Unexcused Absence: Formal Court proceedings with Judge Rumsey CHINS Petition (Child In Need of Supervision) K-5th grades - Warrant for Parent 6th-12th grades - Petition for Student
