Characteristics, roles, and responsibilities of group workers during the ending (termination) phase involve maintaining change efforts, promoting independent functioning of members, addressing members' feelings about closure, planning for the future, making referrals, evaluating group work, and more. The worker needs to ensure smooth closure, anticipate member responses, and navigate feelings of ambivalence. Specific roles during this phase include evaluator, referrals coordinator, guide, and counselor.
