Welcome to Year 5 Meet the teacher 2022 Mrs Mills & Miss
House Keeping Our school gates and classroom doors will open at 8:40am and we will register them at 9am. We will finish school at 3:20pm. The children enter and leave by the main doors on the junior playground. The children will at times be taught by the opposite class teacher and be supported by a variety of other adults in our Phase. Teachers will meet the children in their classrooms from 8.40am. Communication with school: Teachers will be available to contact via email from 8.30am to 4pm, Monday-Friday and will reply when possible. Reading records will be checked daily by teaching staff, with an expectation that children should read at least three times a week.
House Keeping PE: Children will need an outdoor PE kit which should consist of the following items: black/navy shorts or jogging bottoms, plain white t-shirt, trainers, sweatshirt (if needed) and a waterproof coat (if needed). There will be two PE sessions per week, PE days will be confirmed at the start of the Autumn term. Please can children take out earrings on PE days. If they are recently pierced and can t take them out, then they must bring tape to cover them up and be able to do this independently.
House Keeping Swimming: Due to start on Monday 12thSeptember Mrs Mills Class only, and will continue for the Autumn term There will be a letter coming home before the end of term. Miss Farrow s class will be swimming during the Spring term. Travel by coach to Hazel Grove Swimming Baths. More details on available on the risk assessment from the council if you wish.
The Importance of Reading Library: Library books can be taken to and from school. Children will be able to visit the library in small groups. We also have a selection of appropriate books in each classroom for the children to choose from. Reading: For the last couple of years we have had a real push to encourage a passion for reading throughout Norbury Hall which has had a fantastic positive impact on the school. We will be continuing to ask that children are reading at least 3 times a week and this must be recorded in their reading record. If we find that children are not consistently reading at home 3 times a week, we will make time for your child to read during break or lunch for 15 minutes.
Reading Reading books and Reading Records are to be brought into school every day. Children are expected to keep a note of where they have read up to in their book. Please listen to your child read as frequently as possible and record this in their records. If your child has not read three times within the week we will find opportunities in school for additional reading practise. We will continue to check that the children are reading regularly at home and there will be time in school where we will hear your child read. Please ask them questions about the text, make predictions and discuss characters to check their understanding.

Home Learning The home/school agreement details the commitment to support your child s learning. It is extremely important to have your commitment in supporting your child s learning journey. Through Home Learning we would like you to work with us by:- Daily: Reading Book to be recorded in their homework diary at least three times a week. If they are not reading at least three times a week we will provide them with reading opportunities during break or lunch time. Times table/ maths practice- to be recorded in their homework diary- please use Times Tables Rockstars as much as possible. Weekly: My Maths activity. Spelling activity/grammar activity/reading comprehension activity Grid activity Additionally: Some children may be given extra home learning activities to support them in a area of the curriculum.
MyMaths Mymaths can be accessed online. Each child will be given a login and can use the site to access their home- learning which will be set weekly. The home-learning will cover the aspects of maths that they have been learning in school that week. Some children may be set additional home-learning to support them. Occasionally children may bring home a paper home-learning activity instead of online MyMaths. It will be set on a Thursday and marked on a Tuesday.
Times Tables Rockstars Your children will also have a TTRockstars login. They will be able to use this to practise their times tables online.

Golden Time 30 minutes on a Friday afternoon. There will be a range of activities or may be a whole class activity. Children must follow the golden rules to keep their golden time. If children do not follow the golden rules, they may lose 5 their golden time in five minute increments. The golden rules are displayed in each classroom.
Rewards The children can receive dojos on Classdojo.com Children can create their own avatar and access their class dojo at home. Personal login details will be given out or have already been given out. We will also contact grownups at home when children have worked particularly hard. We also intend to share class news on class story
How can you help? Remind your child to read regularly at home. It is still important to hear them read when possible too. Help your child build independence by asking them to take responsibility for packing their own school bag. Encourage your child to practise their times tables regularly.
