Students and families will have an opportunity to visualize themselves in STEM careers and build confidence in students and families abilities to engage in STEM career-related activities.

  7. I Am STEM is an educational craft activity is designed to help students see how their interests and hobbies can provide opportunities for future STEM career connections in their community. It is important for students to see themselves in diverse STEM careers because it helps them to believe that they can pursue a career in these fields.   8. I AM STEM Activity I AM STEM Activity Create a silhouette by drawing, writing or finding pictures that show what you like to do, your hobbies and interests.

  9. Gather Gather Your Your Materials Materials Blank face silhouettes Various colored pencils, crayons or markers Magazines or newspapers Scissors Glue sticks Computers or laptops (if needed)

  10. Lay out all materials. Choose a blank face silhouette. Talk about the things you like to do, hobbies, sports, etc. Draw, write, or find pictures of the things in magazines and add them to the face silhouette they chose. Do the Do the Activity Activity

FUTURE FUTURE PROBLEM PROBLEM SOLVERS SOLVERS ACTIVITY ACTIVITY The Future Problem Solvers activity is designed to help students make the connection that they are already STEM mini professionals and some STEM career jobs require professionals to identify problems before they can be solved. It is important for students to solve actual problems in their community, because they can gain knowledge of how STEM is used in everyday situations and can visually see the impact of solutions.

  13. Future Problem Solvers Activity Future Problem Solvers Activity Come up with one problem you think is the most important and want to create a solution for by drawing or writing down your idea.

  15. Lay out all materials. Prepare the blank Future Problem Solvers prompts by cutting them separately into paper strips (if not already pre- cut). Talk about ideas of problems you see around the community, such as at school, home, neighborhood, etc. Choose a blank Future Problem Solvers prompt paper strip and draw or write your idea on the Future Problem Solvers Prompt paper strips. This activity encourages STEM exploration in a fun way and enhances one of the STEM skills creativity! Families will have the opportunity to capture memories for a lifetime, while trying on different careers interested!

  22. STEM skills are present in almost every career, whether directly or indirectly. STEM skills include: Problem Solving: STEM requires breaking problems into small steps and thinking of multiple solutions. Creativity: In STEM mistakes and failed attempts are a good thing! Sometimes solving problems means coming up with creative answers! Inquiry Skills: Asking questions, proposing ideas, generating and testing solutions and making decisions are active ways to solve STEM problems through inquiry-based thinking. Engineering Design Thinking: This is the STEM process to help identify, research, build prototypes, test, redesign and further iterate or change a design to solve problems. Critical Thinking: Effective STEM learning requires an understanding of how to analyze information, evaluate designs, reflect on thinking and combine ideas. Collaboration: STEM is teamwork!
