Why Ukulele? It is inexpensive It is portable It sounds good It is a solo instrument It is an ensemble instrument It is ideal for ear training It is perfect for learning music theory
Why Ukulele? It is cross cultural You can PLAY and SING at the same time It is FUN!!! It makes no difference what instrument you choose recorder, trumpet, piano, bass, guitar, mandolin; none can compare with the ukulele as a means of music education in our schools. J. Chalmers Doane

Have been an amateur musician for almost 60 years Have been playing ukulele for approximately 23 years Am a member of CLUB (Colborne Library Ukulele Band) In which I play ukulele, am a featured singer, and Arrange music for the group Am a clarinetist with The Cobourg Concert Band Am a JHUI Certified Teacher of Ukulele In The Classroom

Course Timetable Introductory Promotional Event Sunday, April 30thfrom 1:00pm to 3:00pm Lessons every Friday morning from 8:00am to 9:30am From May 12thto July 28th(inclusive) EXCEPT June 2nd(in the Reading Garden) and June 23rd(no lesson)
What You Will Need Know, in order, the numbers 1 to 5 and the letters A to G Have an Ukulele plus some optional extras A sincere commitment to consistent attendance and practice Be able to reject the idea that I can t learn music Be able to use a computer or know someone who does Have, or be willing to develop, an eclectic love of music Above All Be able to have FUN
What You Will Learn Approximately 30 different chords For some chords multiple ways of playing them The three fundamental harmonic chordal functions Study in detail SEVEN great songs in multiple styles: FOLK (Hawaiian, Gospel, Country) and Blues, Latin, Jazz, and Pop Plus play a lot of other songs just for fun
The Songs We Will Study Amazing Grace (3-chord gospel song / Traditional Approach) Down In The Valley (a folk style 2-chord song) Li l Liza Jane (a 2-chord jazzy style song) Aloha Oe (a 3-chord Hawaiian song) Oh, Mary Don t You Weep (a 3-chord minor key song) St. James Infirmary Blues (a 3-chord minor blues song) Careless Love (a 4-chord jazzy song in two versions)
