  4. Exams: What do you have to do? This mock paper is Mon 26th Nov English Literature 2 exams worth 100% of award. Paper 1: Wednesday 15th May 2019 1 hour 45 minutes. Two sections Section A: students are given an extract from Romeo and Juliet and a compulsory question. Section B: students are given an extract from A Christmas Carol (Charles Dickens) and a compulsory question.

This mock paper is Mon 26th Nov Tips for revision: Section A: Romeo and Juliet Key themes to revise: family relationships / gender / conflict Make sure you know: Lady Capulet, Capulet, Juliet, Lady Montague, Montague, Romeo Section B: A Christmas Carol Key themes to revise: guilt / transformation or change / isolation Make sure you know: Scrooge, the Ghosts, Cratchit

  6. Exams: What do you have to do? This mock paper is on Mon 3rd Dec English Literature 2 exams worth 100% of award. Paper 2: Thursday 23rd May 2019 2 hours, 15minutes. Three sections Section A: students are given a choice of two questions on An Inspector Calls. Section B: students are given one compulsory Anthology poem and must compare to an Anthology poem of choice. Section C: students are given two Unseen poems. They must write an analysis on the first poem, then write a comparison between both.

  8. Exams: What do you have to do? This mock paper is on Weds 28th Nov English Language 2 exams worth 100% of award. Both 1 hour 45minutes. Paper 1 Fiction: Tuesday 4th June 2019 Two sections Section A: students are given a short extract from a fiction text (novel) and four comprehension questions. Section B: students are given a choice of writing composition questions; the purpose is to narrate or describe. A picture will be given on the paper.

  9. Exams: What do you have to do? This mock paper is Weds 5th Dec English Language 2 exams worth 100% of award. Both 1 hour 45minutes. Paper 2 Non Fiction : Friday 7th June 2019 Two sections Section A: students are given pair of non-fiction texts and four comprehension questions; two questions will compare the texts Section B: students are given a choice of writing questions; the purpose is to persuade/argue or explain/inform.

  10. The timeless question How do you revise for English Language and English Literature? Believe it or not, there is an awful lot that can be done which will make a difference. Let s answer these two questions What can/should I do? What can parents do to help?

  11. Revision strategies for English Language/English Literature: Know the texts! Learn the texts, not possible answers to questions that might come up. Know the exam: the time allocated, the types of questions, the assessment objectives. Gather a bank of model question papers and look at the types of questions asked. Remember: this is a brand new exam format but the English department has a bank of model question papers and is making them available to students. There are more on the AQA website. Gather the mark schemes and see what they are giving marks for and the skills being assessed (Assessment Objectives); again, available on the AQA website

  12. Revision strategies for English Language/English Literature: Download and read exemplar responses. Again, it s a new exam and few model answers are available. But, the exam board has published some to benefit students. Build a revision timetable and get organised. Identify realistic time slots and schedule in actual tasks/activities. Use the revision checklist to help you know what you need to know. Tick off each task as you go and stick to a clear cut guidelines for yourself, i.e. 3x3x3 rule for the poems.

  13. Revision strategies for English Language/English Literature: Use the internet. The web shouldn t be relied upon as the only source of revision. BUT, there are some gems out there: www.shmoop.com www.sparknotes.com https://www.youtube.com/user/mrbruff https://genius.com/ The Mr Bruff Youtube videos are a tremendous source for revision; easy to find, quick and easily-digestible

Revision strategies for English Language/English Literature: You should also: Re-read their novels, plays and poetry Learn key English terms Ensure that their literacy is solid (spelling, grammar, punctuation) Consider teaming up why not form a forum page on Facebook to share learning / work / ideas / ask questions? Completed short, timed practice questions for language
