  2. How to start: Rank the topics from most confident to the least confident. 1= most confident 7= least confident. You re least confident is where you need to start! A Christmas Carol Unseen Poetry Poetry power and conflict English Language Paper 2 English Language Paper 1 An Inspector Calls Romeo and Juliet To succeed you need to know what the requirements of each exam are and what every question will require you to do. The layout of both exams does not change! The most important revision strategy is practice questions! Completing a timed question every week will help your resilience, confidence and pace. English is a time pressured exam you cannot ignore the value of timed exam questions. Do not trick yourself into thinking you re revising because you ve spent 20 minutes create a pretty title for a poster. You can always ask your teacher for exam questions and show them your work! Feedback is a gift and helps you develop it isn t criticism

  3. How to actively use flash cards in English How to actively use flash cards in English 1. Dual coding On one side of the card write down a key quote on the other side draw one to three symbol that represent the quote. A great website to inspire the icons is: https://thenounproject.com/ star crossed lovers - Romeo and Juliet unsinkable, absolutely unsinkable - An Inspector Calls 2. Connection Game Write a range of characters, themes and quotes on to flash cards leave the other side blank. For example, in A Christmas Carol your flashcards could say: Redemption Scrooge Marley Class Darkness was cheap and Scrooge liked it Ignorance and Want Fezziwig Selfishness Solitary and an Oyster And so on. Shuffle your cards put them face down on the table. Turn two over and work out a link between the cards. For example: you ve turned over Scrooge and Marley. - How do these characters connect? - Why does Marley visit Scrooge? - What are their similarities and differences? - Can you think of a key quote for this moment? Either say your answer out loud or write down your answer so it is active revision not passive.

  4. Analysis (AO2) You don t need to learn every single word of a text! Select some strategic quotes which you can analysis in depth. The key is to say a lot about a little! Select your core quotes carefully. Which word stands out to you? What is the word class? What are the connotations? What does this quote suggest about Scrooge? What language device(s) can you identify? What is the effect? As solitary as an oyster How does this quote link to the rest of the novella? Can you link this quote to specific context?
