TMP Smock Draft It s like a mock draft but artsier
Jacksonville Jaguars Trevor Lawrence-QB Clemson This kid has been projected to go #1 since his high school days. I m pretty sure he already has the Jaguars playbook. He has the size, strength and ability that Urban Meyer covets for this position. Plus the Jaguars have needed a reason for people to come to the games and and Lawrence is the most can t miss prospect since Luck - everyone on our Twitter NFL Comp- Andrew Luck
NY Jets Zach Wilson-QB BYU Zach Wilson is a kid who flew under the radar until this season. He maybe benefited the most from playing 12 regular season games this year. If there was any doubt that Jets were taking a QB this year that went out the door when they let Darnold walk to CArolina. Word is out that Jets are high on Wilson and after finally watching his highlights I see why. I have heard that some teams are worried about off the field issues (nothing specific so probably a smoke screen) but on the field there s no shortage of talent. He makes throwing 60 yard bombs across his body look easy and accurate. He reminds me of a more athletic (quicker) Matt Stafford. I think he should have a solid career if Salah can turn around the team where offensive talent usually goes to die NFL Comp- Matt Stafford
SF 49ers Mac Jones QB- ALabama I have Mac Jones BBQ and Foot Massage going to SF at 3. I think he is a guy who s skill set matches up perfectly with what Shanahan looks for in a QB. Jones is not the same athlete as a WIlson or Lawrence (or Fields and LAnce) but he doesn t have to be. He has a high football IQ, makes quick and smart reads, and won t get you beat. If he goes somewhere with a decent Oline like in SF he could potentially be a Pro Bowl Caliber QB for years to come. At worst, he can can win you 10 games a year and should stay healthy with his size and build (6-3, 220) which isn;t something you can say about Jimmy G. NFL Comp- Matt Ryan
Atlanta Falcons Penei Sewell OT- Oregon Speaking of Matt Ryan, his team is drafting at 4. I debated on if Atlanta would take a QB to learn behind Ryan or if they would take Pitts and give that offense yet another lethal pass catcher but ultimately decided to address the OL which has been rough the last few years. With Sewell, you could a potential generational OT talent who can protect Ryan in the last few years of his contract and give him time to hit one of those dynamic receivers in Ridley, Julio, and the rest.
Cincinnati Bengals Jamar Chase Receiever- LSU If Sewell is available here I think you have to take him to protect last year s #1 overall pick in Joe Burrow but in this case he is not so you take the next best thing and provide him with weapons. Now that AJ Green is out of town I can only name Tyler Boyd in this receiving corps so adding Chase will provide Burrow a go to option besides Boyd and will provide him someone he is familiar with. ( I could also see them taking PItts here)
Miami Dolphins Devonta Smith WR, - Alabama What a spot to be in for Miami. PIcking top 10 and it s not even your pick. You can basically take any player you want here since you know the top 3 picks will be QB. Chris Grier spoke to the media this week and affirmed to fans and media members alike that Tua is the QB of this team. Tua showed flashes last year despite playing half the season. By the end of the season, the Dolphins looked like a rec league team on offense with all of the injuries (the top 3 receivers were out injured, Parker, Williams, Grant, Albert Wilson sat out the season due to Covid, Mike Gesicki was injured in week 14- 15 and the top 2 rushers were all out). This front office is committed to making sure depth is not an issue and they are telling Tua that the ball is in his court, you have weapons now produce or we will find someone who can. II could see them going Pitts here since he is a monster and athletic freak but think Smith s familiarity with Tua and vice versa gives him the edge. I can also see Chase if he is available. Either way I am super excited for any offensive weapon.
Detroit Lions Jaylen Waddle WR, - Alabama If Matt Patricia were still the head coach I would automatically assume that our first defensive player would come off the board but thankfully for Detroit he is gone. (2 seasons too late but hey). If you haven t paid attention this offseason Detroit has gotten rid of Matty Stafford via trade and let Kenny Golladay and Marvin Jones walk during free agency. Jared Goff will need some weapons to throw to and having Jaylen Waddle fall to you at 7 is too sweet to pass up. While he may not be as rangy as Golladay, Waddle is an offensive weapon that can be used for Goff how a Kupp or Woods was in LA. He will also provide a speed threat similar to Tyreek Hill in KC which should complement the physicality of Hockenson in the passing game.
Carolina Panthers Kyle Pitts- TE, Florida Kyle Pitts is a TE by size only. THe man moves like a receiver and is faster than most too. He was a matchup nightmare in college and I expect him to be the same in the pros. Carolina is stacked in every position on offense except for maybe TE (sorry Dan Arnold). They also loaded up on defense last year where they used every pick in the draft to build their defense. This is a situation where you take best player on the board and give your new QB Sam Darnold another weapon to use. With Robbie Anderson, RUN CMC, DJ Moore, and potentially Kyle Pitts all in a Joe Brady offense, the Panthers could be must see football next year.
Denver Broncos Patrick Surtain DB- Alabama While I can see Denver going Qb here I think they give Lock one more year. With Vic Fangio being a DC for years before becoming HC in Denver I think he looks to build this defense back up to the way it was during the SB runa few years ago. This is a team who looks to get Vonn Miller and Bradley Chubb back this year so I think they look to address DB and go with arguably the best one on the board in PS2.
Dallas Cowboys Jaycee Horn DB- SCAR Dallas was able to lock in Dak Prescott in the offseason and retain Amari Cooper and Zeke. The offense was putting up points last year like it was nothing. The defense on the other hand looked like mine during the annual TurkeyBowl game. This team needs all of the defensive help it can get and need to bounce back from last years showing. I could see them going with Surtain here if hes available but since he is not I have them taking Jaycee Horn who played his way into the first round this year with incredible coverage. He played so well in fact he may challenge Surtain or Farley in being the first DB off the board.
NY Giants Rashawn Slater OT- Northwestern The Giants defense took a big step last year and showed flashes. They were able to bring back Leonard Williams as an anchor. I see them addressing defense but later in the draft, This is the year for Daniel Jones to prove he is the guy. They brought in Kenny Golladay in the offseason to give Jones some help. Saquon Barkley will be back,at some point and the emergence of Darius Slayton last year should help Jones along. Factor in Evan Engram hopefully returning to form and Jones has plenty of weapons. Now he just needs protection and with Sewell off the board, Slater seems like the best fit.
Philadelphia Eagles Caleb Farley DB- Virginia Tech Oh how the mighty have fallen since the SB run a few years ago. Gone are Wentz and Pederson. Ertz appears to be on the way out as well. The good news for the Eagles is Jalen Hurts showed some promise last year and you have Dallas Goedert to replace Ertz. I thought about going receiver here since that was a concern for the Eagles last year but more of a concern was the defensive play. Caleb Farley should be able to come in and help fill some of those holes. I also think Trevon Mohring from TCU could be an interesting option here if the front office decides safety is more important than DB.
LA Chargers Christian Darrisaw OT- Virginia Tech Justin Herbert came out and showed the NFL world what he was made of last year en route to taking home ROY honors on offense. They lost Hunter Henry but still have Keenan Allen, Mike Williams, and Austin Ekeler as weapons so they do not necesarilly need to worry about offensive firepower. What they do need to worry about is protecting Herbert. Christian Darrisaw is a big body guy who can come in and keep him upright.
Minnesota Vikings Micah Parsons- LB, Penn State The vikings need help on defense and Parsons is a kid who can do it all for you. He can line up off the edge and pressure a QB, he can stick in coverage and he can be an alpha on the field. I wouldn t be shocked to see them take Newsome here but I think you take best player available and then can get a quality DB in round 2.
New England Patriots Justin Fields QB- Ohio STate This is unfamiliar territory for the evil empire in NE. A top 15 pick in the NFL Draft. I think the QB that Belichick really wants is either Mac Jones who i have being taken 12 picks ago or Justin Fields who falls in their lap. If you look at the offense that Josh Mcdaniels has imnstalled under Cam it would be perfect for Fields skillset. Besides the fact that Fields seems to be slipping in drafts probably makes Belichick want him even more. Lance is also an option here as is Jones if SF doesn t take him 3. I also think NE could trade up as high as maybe 4 to get their guy but I am not doing trades in this mock.
Arizona Cardinals Greg Newsome II CB- Northwestern I don t know if anyone has noticed but the Cardinals have put together a squad on offense. They lost Kenyan Drake but replaced him with James Connor. They also have a loaded receiving corps led by Hopkins, the ageless Larry Fitz, and have had AJ Green join the fray. Hassan Reddick put together a nice year last year and looks to continue that this year on the defensive side of the ball. They also have Budda Baker and Byron Murphy on defense. One notable departure was Patrick Peterson who I think they look to replace with Newsome.
Las Vegas Raiders Alijah Vera-Tucker OT- USC The Raiders have the potential to have an elite ground game with the combination of Josh Jacobs and Kenyan Drake. The receiving coprs showed flashes last year wih Agholor and the Clemson supergrad Hunter Renfrow. You also have Darren Waller manhandling defenses left and right. I think there may be an itch to potentially draft a Trey Lance here but I think they hold off and try to sure up the offensive line some more and take the west coast product in Vera-Tucker to open up holes and give the Gruden Grinder Derek Carr a bit more time to find Agholor and Ruggs downfield.
Miami Dolphins Najee Harris RB- Alabama I have seen alot of drafts take OL here but I think this offense needs one more playmaker in the first round. While its always a good idea to project your QB i think they will have plenty of time and picks to address it later on. This class is prettys stout with OL prospects. Harris showed this year why he should be the RB1. He can be a weapon on the ground and through the air. He and Gaskin would be a matchup nightmare for opposing defenses plus like with the Smith pick, it is you telling Tua here are some weapons show up what you got and their is a built-in relationship for your sophomore signal caller.
Washington Football Team Trey Lance QB- NDSU I have gone on record saying that Trey Lance may have the most physical gifts and upside of any QB in this draft. He has the size, the strength, the athletic ability but the biggest knock on him is experience. WFT being able to take him and let him sit for a year (or 2) behind the GOAT of journeyman QB s in Fitzgmaic could be well magical. If you let him learn and process behind Fitz then this team could be scary next year (2022) with Lance under center with Maclaurin and Gibson as weapons.
Chicago Bears Terrace Marshall Jr. WR- LSU Marshall doesn t get the same recognition that Jamar Chase does but he is still worthy of a first round pick. He was the best thing about LSU s offense this year. The Bears will look to provide Andy Dalton some weapons and give Allen Robinson some help. Let s hope he pans out better than Kevin White and Anthony Miller.
Indianapolis Colts Alex Leatherwood OT- Alabama The Colts have turned one of their biggest weaknesses under Andrew Luck into their biggest strength after his retirement in the offensive line. They do need to replace Anthony Constanzo on the offensive line and protect Carson Wentz. They have the opportunity to get Leatherwood who will translate well in the next level without having to give up too much to move up due to the deep OL class in this draft. Leatherwood should be able to be a plug and play day one option in Indy.
Tennessee Titans Rashod Bateman WR- Minnesota The titans have the best ground game offense in the NFL (sorry Minnesota) but the passing game should use some help. Corey Davis moved on in free agency which leaves the Titans with a big game at number 2 receiver behind AJ Brown. Bateman is a physical pass catcher that Mike Vrabel and Ryan Tannehill will love.
NY Jets Teven Jenkins OL- Oklahoma State The Jets have alot of needs after taking Zach Wilson number 2 overall. Luckily, this draft is deep in alot of positions. The Jets also need a pass catcher but can get one in the later rounds. They spent their first pick last year on the OL and will spend their second pick this year to make sure their future franchise QB is well taken care of.
Pittsburgh Steelers Travis Ettienne RB- Clemson The Steelers need to find a RB to replace departing James Conner. With Najee Harris coming off the board at 18 I have them taking Clemson back Travis Ettienne. Etienne is a hard runner and prolific pass-catcher and weapon out of the backfield. He will fit well in this Steelers offense.
Jacksonville Jaguars Kwity Paye- EDGE- Michigan This draft is so deep on offensive talent that the Jaguars will be able to give Sunshine more weapons in the later rounds. With this pick they can start the rebuilding of that Sacksonville Defense. They can pair Paye up with Josh Allen and have opposing Qbs in that division running scared.
Cleveland Browns Christian Barrimore DL- Alabama Sheldon Richardson is no longer with the organization and Barrimore can come in and fill that massive hole. THis is a team who doesnt need much help on offense and has pieces in place on defense with Myles Garrett and Denzel Ward. Adding Barrimore can give them another run stuffer as well as help for Garrett going after opposing QB s.
Baltimore Ravens Samuel Cosmi OT- Texas The Ravens just shipped out Orlando Brown Jr. to the Chiefs. That being said they need a replacement to help protect Lamar. While this team desperately needs a WR1 to help Lamar, protecting him is more important.
New Orleans Saints Zaven Collins LB- Tulsa The Saints need help at LB and there may not be a better LB in this class than Collins. Offense has never been the problem in NO so having a dawg on the defense like Collins just makes sense.
Green Bay Packers Jaelan Phillips EDGE- Miami EDGe rusher is one position that the Packers could be better. Kenny Clark is a monster on the DL so giving him some help also helps (no pun intended). Phillips has been shooting up draft boards this offseason so this is a steal this late.
Buffalo Bills Carlos Basham Jr. EDGE- Wake Forest The Bills may be the most complete team in the AFC (sorry Chiefs). This is a case of trying to get the best value at a position of need. HAving BAsham coming off the edge will be a nice compliment to Edmonds and White on the defense.
Baltimore Ravens Kadarious Toney WR- Florida Getting Toney at the end of round 1 will give Lamar a much needed weapon. TOney is a dynamic pass-catcher who can line up anywhere on the field. Something Harbaugh and Roman will love. He will serve as a nice compliment to Hollywood Brown and Mark Andrews.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers Jeremiah Owusu Koromoa LB-Notre Dame The Bucs should be absolutely loaded again this year. One area they can improve is at LB. With Levonte David and Shaq Barrett both returning this year Jeremiah can come in and play when needed and learn behind the two veterans.
Bold Predictions Kellen Mond will go as early as round 2 (possibly to the Bears) Trevon Mohrig will be a top 3 pick in the second round. The Dolpins will trade back up into the end of the first round.
