COURT LOCATIONS Court Clerks are located throughout Manitoba. They are divided into 2 categories. Winnipeg Regions
DUTIES OF A COURT CLERKS/MONITOR Attend the Court of King s Bench or Provincial Court to Clerk: Monitoring court proceedings using digital recording software Accurate logging of court proceedings Marking and recording exhibits Reading charges Administering oaths to witnesses Preforming pre and post court related duties
DUTIES OF A COURT CLERKS/MONITOR Maintain order in the courtroom Prepare dockets and documents arising from the proceedings Ability to handle sensitive and graphic evidence and submissions during court hearings Keeper of the record Assist the judiciary, members of the legal profession, police and the public as required
KEEPER OF THE RECORD Records court proceedings using FTR software (DAR) Administers oaths Marks and takes control of exhibits filed in the proceedings Accurately records bans on publication
KEEPER OF THE RECORD Records the judge s decision verbatim on disposition sheets and documents Clarifies dispositions when needed Keeper of the record vs. Maker of the Record!!
ORDER IN THE COURTROOM Ensures the proceedings run smoothly There are no disruptions Members of the public, counsel and media are compliant with the Electronic Devices Policy Identifies security risks
PAPERWORK & DISPOSITIONS Records the judge s decision verbatim on the disposition sheet Prepares necessary documents to correspond with the disposition/order
Confirms identity of accused/offender Confirms date of birth Explains all the conditions and ensures the accused/offender understands Witnesses signatures when appropriate Explains the paperwork to the accused/ offender
EXPECTATION OF THE COURT The judge expects to start on time & be kept informed of any delays or issues arising Clerk will be alert, organized and informed Clerk will be professional and unbiased at all times Clerk will maintain order Clerk will keep accurate records
