Statewide Assessment Philosophy Serve the students, educators, and districts of the state of Nebraska Make laws and policies be the most beneficial and the least disruptive as possible Offer resources & supports that assist districts develop & maintain a balanced assessment system Fulfill the mission and vision of State Board of Education and NDE
Statewide Assessment Parameters What is best for all students? Fairness & equity for students, educators and districts Technical quality for our assessments Federal & State statute/guidance Including purposes described in law
Statewide Assessment Purpose Nebraska Statue 79.60.03 (a) Determine how well public schools are performing in terms of achievement of public school students related to the state academic content standards; (b) Report the performance of public schools based upon the results of state assessment instruments and national assessment instruments; (c) Provide information for the public and policymakers on the performance of public schools; and (d) Provide for the comparison among Nebraska public schools and the comparison of Nebraska public schools to public schools elsewhere.
Assessment Tenet The State Board believes the results of multiple assessment sources (national, state, and classroom-based) should be used to measure student achievement of college and career ready standards, and be used as an integral part of the instructional process. NSCAS General & Alternate Achievement Levels College and Career Ready Benchmark Learners who meet the college and Career ready benchmark demonstrate advanced proficiency in the knowledge and skills necessary at this grade level, as specified in the assessed Nebraska College- and Career-Ready Standards. These results provide evidence that the student will likely be ready for academic success at the next grade level. On Track Learners who are on track demonstrate proficiency in the knowledge and skills necessary at this grade level, as specified in the assessed Nebraska College- and Career-Ready Standards. These results provide evidence that the student will likely be ready for academic success at the next grade level. Developing Learners who are developing do not yet demonstrate proficiency in the knowledge and skills necessary at this grade level, as specified in the assessed Nebraska College- and Career-Ready Standards. These results provide evidence that the student may need additional support for academic success at the next grade level.
NSCAS General ELA & Math Aligned to NE CCR Standards Includes Multiple Choice (MC) and Technology Enhanced (TE) Items Computer Adaptive Test Paper Accommodated form Untimed-Single Session but can be Divided into Multiple Sessions
