  1. TD/MSD/M&A Group Meeting 26 January 2017

  2. Some Fermi News from Lab Status meetings Notes from D. Harding Incidents: ESH&Q: contractor slipped on ice and hit his head on the ground. Investigation pending. PPD: week before last, knife slipped while cutting cable tie resulting in 5 stiches in hand. DART case. FESS: tree work incident resulting in first aid. Accelerator Operations: LINAC, Booster, MI & Recycler running well. NuMI at ~630 kW with SY120, 690kW w/o SY. Beam to SY when requested. Delivered 1.17E19 POT to NuMI for Jan 9-16, 1.48E19 for Jan 16-23. Delivered 8.39E18 POT to BNB for Jan 9-16, 7.01E18 for Jan 16-23. SY120 septa repaired. 41.2 hours of beam to SeaQuest, at their request for Jan 9-16, 77.8 hours for Jan 16-23. 21.9 hours of beam to MTest for Jan 9-16, 25.2 hours for Jan 16-23. Future schedule can be found: http://www-ad.fnal.gov/ops/schedule.html MI-12 Communication Duct. Hope to move to new cable in March will coordinate with Master SubStation outages. PIP-II Injector test: emittance measurements look good. Shutdown to install 30deg bend in LEBT. FAST: Shutdown for 300 MeV upgrade continues. Magnet stands installed and aligned. Magnet supports being added. LCLSII prototype cryo module: Slow cooldown in progress. ICW Reduction to establish new Casey s Pond water strainer vault completed successfully. Everyone impacted thanked 1/26/2017

  3. Some Fermi News from Lab Status meetings Notes from D. Harding MicroBooNE: 96.5% uptime. MINERvA: (Jan 5-18) 98% uptime (MINOS ND livetime to be calculated). Config file bug caused MINERvA DAQ to use wrong timing. Can recover no lost data. Measure taken to prevent this in the future. NOvA: Running smoothly. 99% FD uptime. SeaQuest: Taking data with solid targets. LH2 target empty due to mislabeled empty H2 bottle. Lost LD2 target fill Saturday night. Waiting for H2 & D2 gas. Main beam counter (G2SEM) broken, replacement in place PPD Operations: g-2. There is now a plan to fix vac. issue involving surgery on the cryostat to remove unwanted charcoal. Will start this week and take ~4 weeks. Should not impact overall schedule. LZ received CD-3. ND Operations: SBN: All 3 collaborations had meetings last week. DUNE Collab meeting at CERN this week. pDUNE SP risk workshop Feb. 3rd. Computing Operations: CCD: Thurs 1/19: MC-1 network outage when UPS exhausted during extended power outage. Note KCA service will turn off Tuesday 1/31. ReadyTalk will be replaced by Zoom on Feb. 1st. RT users will automatically get Zoom accounts. Training available. Also online instructions. SCD: Good week. 1/18: MicroBooNE slow controls database node disk failure. 1/26/2017

  4. Some Fermi News from Lab Status meetings Notes from D. Harding TD Operations. The LCLS-II split quadrupole that was dropped before Christmas has been tested cold and is still good. It was to be shipped to J-Lab today. The HPI report is almost complete. The IB1 cryo plant efficiency has dropped dramatically in a way that is characteristic of frozen water contamination migrating to the cold box. There are a couple of urgent LCLS-II cavity tests that need to be done, so limping along this week. Will start warming up to 300 K next weekend. That s a two-week cycle before everything is cold again. During that period, big push to commission in-line gas purification system should reduce future vulnerability to the problem. The first production split quad for LCLS-II is next in line for urgent testing. LCLS-II cavity vendor issues continue. LCLS-II CM2 assembly continues, but microphonics problems in the prototype cryomodules have raised fears that the design may need to be modified, adding uncertainty to the schedule. Installation of the cryogenic distribution system for the Mu2e transport solenoid (TS) module test equipment at HAB is complete. The Mu2e splice test magnet is being installed in the Vertical Magnet Test Facility (VMTF). Office of Communication: Fermilabs Greatest hits lecture by Chris Quigg this Friday is fully booked. Directorate: Nigel is at the DUNE related meetings at CERN this week. 1/26/2017
