RDA Europe 4.0 is a global forum focusing on research data interoperability and sustainability. It provides a neutral platform for over 6000 international experts to collaborate on solving data-related challenges. The approach emphasizes bottom-up problem-solving and fosters a community-driven structure to address issues efficiently. The model aims to synchronize efforts among national, European, and global stakeholders while ensuring relevance at all levels. Financial sustainability is supported through revenue streams like certification schemes, training workshops, and grants. Scalable development involves creating and managing national/regional RDA nodes to lead various initiatives and strengthen RDA's position in open data and science policies.

  2. RDA & RDA EU 4.0 approach sustainability Global forum that facilitates research data interoperability: Research data sharing without barriers Neutral place to meet 6000+ international researchdata experts bottom-up & grass-roots Problem-solvingstructureof RDA members get help from the RDA community to find solutions The RDA recommendations& outputs & RDA ICT Technical specs acknowledged adoptable solutions RDA needs to keep its unique position to synchronise between the national, European, global disciplinary and sector stakeholders & deliver at global level as well as locally. Implementing an effective governance model and strategy within RDA global that ensures RDA delivers on locally relevant issues Proposes a new, open and dynamic structure to expand the RDA community in Europe It builds on existing networks to create a European network of nodes to enhance member state cooperation and support of RDA in many European countries & vice versa the representation of EU countries in RDA Global. 04/03/2025 www.rd-alliance.org - @resdatall

  3. Components for financial viability Revenue streams for financial viability as outlined in the evisaged sustainability model: Light certification schemes - > Accreditation for adopters of Recommendations & ICT technical Specs Training & workshops Royalties -> service oriented approach define an offer & revamp the website ( mock-up to be provided) Grants: e.g. Project like StandICT.eu provide grants for data specialists working on standards Contributions from Member states Donations .... 04/03/2025 www.rd-alliance.org - @resdatall

  4. Scalable development RDA nodes they play a central role and connect RDA & members state strategies Creation, organisation and management of a national / regional RDA community Nodes to lead specific activities: Early career programmes, Ambassadors programmes, Industrial engagement - shared management of operation Nodes driving discipline specific projects - addressing local / disciplinary issues but adopting & driving the global results: RDA Recommendations Nodes to play a key role in national policy concerning open data and open science Nodes to play a key role in the definition of the Directive on the re-use of Public Sector Information RDA consolidated position / role in EOSC and FAIR RDA consolidated position / synergies with ESFRIs and ERICs ... 04/03/2025 www.rd-alliance.org - @resdatall

  8. Nodes & Activities going forward 1/2 Nodes should act as the central contact point between the national / regional data practitioners and RDA, through the following activities: Creation, organisation and management of a national / regional RDA community; Participation in and representation on the RDA Europe Governing Board (as defined in section 3.2); Interaction with national research funding bodies and RDA governance; Promotion of open calls for European participation in RDA (plenary meetings, support programmes, ambassadors, early career programmes, etc.); Identification of strategic themes and domains as focus of European cascading grants / open calls; Organisation of events (meetings, workshops, training courses etc.) to disseminate & promote RDA activities and outputs; Dissemination of RDA activities and output and encouraging participation in RDA activities and adoption of outputs, leveraging on the knowledge of the local research system. A network of national and regional nodes is an essential and fundamental component of the growth, consolidation and sustainability of RDA in Europe (RDA EU3 Informal Review). 04/03/2025 www.rd-alliance.org - @resdatall

  9. Nodes & Activities going forward 2/2 The 9 European nodes, in addition to their rigorous, national activity provide robust support for the following roles within RDA Europe: Athena RC (GR) and the Science and Technology Facilities Council STFC (UK) both provide Secretariat Support to RDA; Barcelona Supercomputing Centre BSC (ES) support Industry activities; Centre National De La Recherche Scientifique CNRS (FR) support the Ambassador Programme; Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche CNR-ISTI (IT) provide editorial support for Data Science Journal; CSC-Tieteen Tietotekniikan Keskus OY CSC (FI); Data Archiving and Networked Services DANS (NL) are the RDA ambassador for the Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) research communities; Max Planck Gesellschaft Zur Foerderung Der Wissenschaften E.V. MPG (DE) to support the Group of European Data Experts (GEDE) and the Atlas of Knowledge; National Library of Ireland NLI (IE) to be the RDA Ambassador to the Libraries & Archive community Structure & approach that ensure key activities are taken forward by the best drivers: Industrial Activities, Atlas of Knowledge, Ambassadors Programme; GEDE . 04/03/2025 www.rd-alliance.org - @resdatall
