  8. Teach Today, we are learning to read words that contain ew saying /oo/.

  9. Teach Sometimes, e and w work as partners to make the /oo/ sound. Let s say these examples: blew grew chews

  10. Teach RULES Kit and Sam were in the Victorian classroom. They had met a friend, Andrew. It is different here, Kit thought to himself as he looked around at the dull walls.

  11. Teach The classroom is so boring because there are no colours, he thought. Today, we will practise our writing. This is one of our 3 R s, said Miss Agnew in a loud voice.

  12. Teach Teach RULES What are the 3 R s, class? The whole class suddenly replied, Reading, writing and arithmetic, Miss Agnew, in a dreary tone. That s quite right, she smiled.

  13. Teach Remember to sit straight! called Miss Agnew. Nobody likes a lazy child! Everyone straightened their backs and sat almost frozen, looking towards the board.

  21. Apply Kit and Sam lined up for their stew. It was so quiet that you could hear a pin drop. They followed Andrew and sat on a row of pews. The stew was cold and lumpy. We must eat it all or we cannot play outside, whispered Andrew.

  22. Apply Kit and Sam ate the cold stew as they wanted to play. They followed Andrew into the school yard. Do you want to play with the spinning top? Andrew asked. Yes, answered Sam, please can you show us how it works?

  23. Apply You don t know? chuckled Andrew. Here, watch me, he said as he wrapped a leather string around a wooden pointed thing. This is the top. You have to make it spin for as long as you can.

  24. Apply He placed the top on the ground and pulled the stick with a quick movement. The wooden top spun around. Wow! said Kit and Sam together. Now, you have a try! offered Andrew as he handed the toy to Sam.
