  3. HBA Basics HBA is a community-based youth baseball program for youth players 13-19 years old. We consider our 13-15 year old program to be the primary feeder program for the Hopkins HS baseball program. Players must attend Hopkins public schools or attend a private school within the Hopkins school district boundaries or live within the Hopkins school district boundaries if they attend a school outside of the Hopkins schools geography. We draw primarily from 4 local youth programs Big Willow Baseball Association Glen Lake Mighty Mites Golden Valley Little League Hopkins Area Little League We offer both competitive and recreational play for all skill levels. We have a no cut policy anyone who wants to play will be placed on a team. We are a volunteer led organization of parents that are passionate about baseball. We love the game and we want to see more kids playing.

  5. Parent Code of Conduct To ensure that players arrive on time for training sessions and games. To inform the coaches, in advance, if your child cannot attend training or a game. To be enthusiastic, yet not critical. To encourage your child and team, but not insult or discourage the opposition. To acknowledge the good play of both teams. To support, and not criticize the coach. If you have any issue with the coach, discuss the matter privately with the coach, or with the appropriate HBA official. Both you and the coach may benefit from period of reflection following a game before taking up the matter. To refrain from coaching your child or the team; this is the coach s responsibility. To assist the coach where appropriate, and only with the coach s consent. To refrain from open criticism of the umpire or other game officials, and of the opposing players or coaches. Your conduct in this regard will serve as a powerful example to your child and the other players. If you have an issue with the conduct of the Umpire or of the opposing players or coaches, speak privately with your team s head coach, and allow him or her to address the matter in the proper forum. To be positive about the sport, and not allow winning or losing to color your attitude. Alcoholic beverages are not permitted at games or practices. Tobacco products are not permitted at games or practices. Important: Violations may result in a parent being asked to leave park.

  6. Player Code of Conduct To show up for practices and games in the proper uniform and equipment. To get to practices and games on time. To perform to the extent of your potential, according to your expectations and standards. You should have fun, work hard, and become the best player you can. To show proper respect to your coaches and teammates. To show proper respect to umpires and opposing players, coaches and their spectators. Your conduct on and off of the field should reflect positively on you, your team and the HBA. To assist with field preparation and clean up as requested by coaches and officials. Use of tobacco products in ANY setting is strictly prohibited. Use of alcoholic beverages in ANY setting is strictly prohibited. Use of illegal drugs in ANY setting is strictly prohibited. Important: Violations may result in player suspension or dismissal.

  7. HBA Rules for 2022 Pitch Count Rules These counts are more restrictive than many tournaments, but the board approved these limits to help prevent overuse. More information on our website. Bat Rules Both USA and USSSA bats will be allowed for MBL League Games /MBT Tournaments/GSTC/MSF Tournaments. Complete bat rules at www.hopkinsbaseball.com Equitable Play Rules Positive feedback from past seasons Defensive Playing Time: Each player must average 3.5 innings per game defensively for all games the player is available to play Plate Appearances: The ratio of plate appearances (PA) from the player with the most PAs to the player with the fewest PAs shall not exceed 5:3 Birthday Age Cutoff same as it has been (your age as of 4/30/22) Age Based Playing Rules Allowed one time age/grade adjustment

  8. HBA Levels of Play Travel Program AAA, AA, A Level Travel Teams Teams for each age level (13, 14, & 15) AAA Highest level of competition in state AAA Highest level of expectations!! Focused on development, growth, fun, and winning Regular season games vs. other local travel teams in MBL 3-4 tournaments, in addition to state tournaments, MBL playoffs Expect 4-6 days of baseball per week Home games at Guilliam, Big Willow, and Hopkins HS fields Those plus NJH, WJH, & Eisenhower fields used for practice Players will keep their jerseys and hat Players provide own pants, socks, belt, glove, helmet, bat, etc.

Coaches HBA accepting applications from Head Coach candidates at all levels Interview process to follow Head coaches for 13AAA, 14AAA, and 15AAA teams selected as part of that process Head coaches for all AA, A, House, and Senior teams will be identified after team formation Head coaches will identify assistant coaches from parents of their team rosters Typically, majority of HBA coaches are parent volunteers please volunteer if you have interest In absence of interested/qualified volunteers, a Head Coach may be a paid non-parent If you would like to coach or assistant coach at any level, contact Tyler Brodersen or Mike Frodermann

Evaluations & Team Selection Evaluations: Evaluations are conducted at the Lindbergh Center Players scored on many different baseball skills by independent evaluators Identified AAA Head Coaches, independent evaluators, and a selection committee observe & take notes Players should bring glove, helmet, bat & wear athletic attire Uniform sizing will happen prior to event during check in Evaluations are for all players Please arrive 30 minutes early for check in and uniform sizing HBA coaches attend preseason clinics/workouts. They are watching how your players perform and conduct themselves. Tell your kids to take them seriously and work hard! Your work ethic and focus will leave a positive impression with a potential coach. Clinic performance is one data point in the evaluation process that is considered when determining travel teams.

Evaluations Sunday, March 20th at the Lindbergh Center 13 year old s: 11:00 to 1:30 p.m. 14 year old s: 1:30 to 3:15 p.m. 15 year old s: 3:15 to 4:45 p.m. Conflicts Please contact Gregg Schaefer (gschaefer@kare11.com) if your player has a conflict with their scheduled evaluation time A make-up date option will be available Tuesday March 22nd @ 6 p.m. but every effort should be made to attend on Sunday March 20th Team Notification Our goal is to post teams as soon as possible after evaluations are completed. We work with the HS staff to coordinate the dates and postings to avoid conflicts/distractions for the HS team tryouts.

  12. Evaluations & Team Selection AAA Teams: Multiple Data Points and No Single Individual Decision Maker. It is a joint HBA effort! Evaluation scores are totaled & assessed Prior to evaluations, coaches reach out to feeder program coaches, HBA coaches or other coaches from previous seasons for player strengths & weaknesses. Direct feedback from coaches and statistics from 2021 teams Head Coach consults with HBA Player Development Committee throughout the preseason and selection process. Clinic performance and attendance can strongly influence player perception. Head Coach suggests identified potential pool of AAA players and presents them to HBA Player Development Committee for discussion and approval. Target roster size is 12 players per team, but subject to change based on registration and the evaluation process.

  13. Evaluations & Team Selection (continued) AA & A Teams: The same process and data points are used in selecting the AA and A teams from the remaining player pool. Player evaluation scores are used Feedback from feeder program coaches, HBA coaches or other coaches from previous season for player strengths & weaknesses Direct feedback from coaches and statistics from 2021 teams Target roster size is 12 players per team, but subject to change based on registration and the evaluation process. AA & A Head Coaches are selected once AA & A rosters are identified

Evaluations & Team Selection (continued) Team roster sizes are determined as part of the Team Selection process Team roster sizes may not be uniform across HBA teams Depending on player registration numbers and evaluation results, some players (particularly 15 year-olds) may be placed on a combined 15/14 A team or a Senior League (discussed later) team 15U and Senior League teams do not start baseball activity until after the high school season

HBA Winter Training 2022 Objective Create a winter training program that: Shakes off the rust and gets players thinking baseball Appeals to both the recreational and serious player Helps prepare players for spring evaluations* Is a good value for players/families Plan A training program that offers structured reinforcement of baseball fundamentals, and includes advanced instruction, skill development, and repetitions for all players. *IMPORTANT NOTE: HBA AAA Head Coaches attend our preseason clinics/workouts. They are watching how players perform and conduct themselves. Tell your player to take them seriously and work hard! Their work ethic and focus will leave a positive impression with the potential coach and evaluators.

HBA Winter Training 2022 Requests of Parents relative to Winter Training: Help HBA enforce COVID-19 related precautions/protocols with your players For training events and evaluations, plan to drop your players off and pick them back up promptly at the end of sessions no observation or hanging around Cost Structure: Register for each winter training session on our website at: www.hopkinsbaseball.com Clinic cost is $20 per player per session (families with multiple players will get a 50% discount for second player) Registration will close 2 hours prior to the event On-site walk-ups will not be allowed Attend any clinics that work with your player s schedule Players must be registered for HBA 2022 season prior to attending Evaluations on March 20th

  19. Registration Registration is open on our website at: www.hopkinsbaseball.com Players register based on age as of April 30, 2022 All players will register via SportsEngine/players must be registered in order to attend evaluations The 2022 fee is unchanged from 2021. It will be $650 payable in four installments: January 15TH (or upon registration), February 1ST, March 1ST, March 20TH HBA will require all parents to authorize the full registration amount at the time of registration. If registering after one of the above installment milestone dates, the installment amounts that were due on prior dates will be taken at the time of registration. No refunds will be granted after tryouts conclude. The HBA Board may consider exceptional circumstances for a partial refund, i.e. such as if a player suffers a season-ending injury before the season starts or if a player's residency changes making the player no longer eligible for HBA. A $25 discount will be offered if the entire registration fee is paid upfront Scholarship opportunities are available, please email Mike Frodermann (michaelfrodermann@gmail.com) for more information.

  20. Registration What is included: Players will own and keep their jerseys and baseball hat Fees for MBL league and playoffs, fees for three regular season tournaments and one state tournament, rented facility costs, shared equipment (baseballs, catcher s gear, etc.), insurance, etc. Volunteer time of coaches and parents dedicated to the success of HBA Field costs for the City of Minnetonka and Hopkins School District What is not included: Baseball pants (white pants with royal blue side stripe), royal blue belt, royal blue socks, bats, gloves, and other individual player equipment Winter clinics - cost $20 per session - register separately on HBA website

Senior League Another baseball option for older players Players ages 16 19 Practices start May with games in June July Multi-tiered platform for competitive or house league experience Games played at Big Willow Park, Hopkins Varsity field, and metro suburbs Traditionally played in the MYAS league Committed to providing our participants the very best educational, sports experience possible. It is our fundamental belief that every child with a desire to play baseball be afforded that opportunity.

  23. Sponsorships/Fundraising Youth sports takes money to put on a quality program. We are self- funded and rely on fees, sponsorships, and fundraising to fund our annual budget of around $90K.
