Hours later, they both went hunting again …. feasted and then
retired wearily to their beds when night hushed the bird song.
Once again, the old man woke in the middle of the night and
snatched the magical jacket. This time he ran and he ran and he
ran and he ran. Then he ran some more. As nature’s alarm
sounded, he found a tree and lay down to sleep. What a fool he
was, for he did not realise that the whole earth is Winter’s lodge.
There was no escaping. Winter’s voice woke him with a start.
“Morning, old man. Why have you got my jacket under your
head? As you like it so much, I will give you the jacket. Keep it!”
The old man couldn’t believe his ears. His plan had worked. He
was so pleased.
