Eight Characteristics of
Godly Leadership

#1
Recognizes the Value In Other
People, and Continually Invests
In Others
Godly leaders see a large part of their
role as developing other leaders.
Leadership development takes place
in our churches when good leaders
begin to share their experiences,
good and bad, with others.

And the things that thou hast
heard of me among many
witnesses, the same commit
thou to faithful men, who
shall be able to teach others
also”.
#2
Has Good Character
There are no perfect people, but for a leader to
be considered good, they must have a character
that is unquestioned within the church.
Leadership always draws criticism from
someone, so a leader may not be able to get
everyone to believe in him or her, but the
people who know the leader best should trust
the leader’s character.

Titus 2:7
“In all things shewing thyself a pattern
of good works: in doctrine shewing
uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity,
Sound speech, that cannot be
condemned”…
   #3
Is Skillful And Competent
Godly leaders can be depended on for
their professionalism and follow-through.
They exemplify “A Spirit of Excellence”.
You don’t question whether a good leader
is going to be able to complete a task. If
they don’t know how to do something,
they will find someone who does, but
they will ensure that a job is done and
done with excellence.
2 Timothy 1:7
“For God hath not given us the
spirit of fear; but of power, and of
love, and of a sound mind.”
#4

Not Afraid For Others To Succeed
Godly leaders realize that some followers
will outgrow their own ability to develop
them any further. Good leaders, however,
aren’t threatened by another’s success.
They are willing to celebrate as those
around them succeed.
Romans 12:10
“Be kindly affectioned one to
another with brotherly love;
in honour preferring
one another; ”
#5
Serves Others Expecting
Nothing In Return

Godly leaders have a heart of
service. They truly love and value
people and want to help others for
the cause of Christ, the good of the
one being helped and not for personal
gain.
Philippians 2:3
“Let nothing be done through strife or
vainglory; but in lowliness of mind
let each esteem other better
than themselves”.
  #6
Continues To Learn
Good Christian leaders are always
learning and implementing those
learnings into the betterment of the
church. That could be through
reading, conferences, Web-based
learnings or through other leaders,
but also through people who report to
the leader.
2 Timothy 2:15
Study to shew thyself approved unto
God, a workman that needeth not to be
ashamed, rightly dividing the
word of truth.
  #7
Remains Accessible, Approachable
And Accountable To Others

Godly leaders don’t isolate themselves
from people regardless of the amount of
responsibility or authority he or she
attains. Christ-like leaders willingly seek
the input of other people into their
professional and personal lives.
Mark 10:44
“And whosoever of you will be the
chiefest, shall be servant
of all”.
  #8
Is Visionary: Thinks For The
Church Beyond Today

Godly leaders are always thinking beyond
today. “What’s next?” is a common question
asked by good leaders, knowing that
someone must continually encourage change,
growth and strategic thinking for an
organization to remain healthy.

2 Peter 3:15
But sanctify the LORD God in your hearts: and
be ready always to give an answer to every
man that asketh you a reason of the hope
that is in you with meekness and fear:

Godly leadership involves recognizing the value in others, having good character, being skillful and competent, and not being afraid for others to succeed. It is about investing in others, embodying a spirit of excellence, and fostering a culture of growth and development. Drawing inspiration from biblical passages such as Titus 2:7 and Romans 12:10, godly leaders lead by example and empower those around them to reach their full potential.
