Highlights on Sexual Harassment Policy Key findings Most had a clear and concise policy statement except few 1. 2. Few policies aligned to national laws; none mentioned regional and international conventions 3. Focused on response; very few had prevention (e.g. education, awareness creation; defense martial arts, etc.) and none had anything on mitigation Response directed to perpetrator; very little for the victim/survivor: e.g. investigation of the allegation, disciplinary actions if proven true. 4. 5. Few were not as comprehensive and lacked direction in terms of the response procedure 6. No policy mentioned emergency response procedure, e.g. what to do where there is need for collection of forensic evidence for survivors of rape 7. No policy indicated linkage with other government services (law enforcement, health services, etc) or relevant non-governmental agencies
Sexual Harassment Policy Recommendations Commitment from institutional leadership is key Awareness campaigns about sexual harassment should be regular Need to creating linkages of these polices with national and international policies Need to promote cross sharing and exchanges between ACEs Need for clear reporting mechanisms and key contact personnel Capacity building webinar organized for 30th Nov 2020

Challenges & Lessons learnt Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the operations of the ACE host- institutions e.g student recruitment low, internship placements and staff mobility. Effective patterns of interactions among the ACE stakeholders creates strong linkages and quality information flow hence good project implementation Special skills e.g. online teaching are critical. There is need for deliberate regular efforts to support ACEs to retool faculty staff in deficient areas. This would strategically build robust resilience in the event of similar disruptive future pandemics. The project realized the importance of up to date technology to facilitate business transactions in Higher Education. It is important to regularly review and update technology at HEIs as this would reduce disruptions.
