Australian Tertiary Admission Rank Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) (ATAR) From 2020, the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) replaced the Overall Position (OP) as the standard pathway to tertiary study for Year 12 students in Queensland.
What is the difference between the ATAR and What is the difference between the ATAR and OP? OP? The ATAR is a finer grained rank order of students than the OP. It s a number between 0.00 and 99.95 with increments of 0.05, whereas the OP consists of 25 bands. The ATAR is commonly used in other states and territories.
Calculating ATARs Calculating ATARs The Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC) will be responsible for calculating students ATARs. QTAC will calculate ATARs based on either: a student's best 5 General subject results, or a student's best results in a combination of 4 General subject results, plus 1 Applied subject result or completed VET qualification at Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Certificate III level or above. If a student is eligible for an ATAR in both categories, QTAC will use their highest ATAR.
English as a requirement for ATAR eligibility English as a requirement for ATAR eligibility To be eligible for an ATAR, students must satisfactorily complete a QCAA English subject. While students must meet this standard to be eligible to receive an ATAR, it won t be mandatory for a student s English result to be included in the calculation of their ATAR. (University English pre-requisites need to be considered here)
Student Wellbeing Student Wellbeing Senior Schooling can be a Rollercoaster of emotions for parents and students alike! Senior schooling can be a very stressful time therefore it is important to take care of yourself : give consideration to your diet, exercise, extra curricula activities, part time employment, social media, open communication at home, down time Guidance Officer support is available please don t hesitate to make a time to see a Guidance Officer via Sandy in Student Services. Communication is the key!

Students Require 20 Points

FOR QCE Unit Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory Points 1 S 1 2 S 1 3/4 S 2 Must be satisfactory, that is, a C or better, to earn the QCE point We need every student to START STRONG
Assessment & Reporting times are different

Completion of Applied Subject assignments and all VET Certificates : 17 days of External Exams

Block Exams: Students are only at school when they are doing an exam/completing catch up

Other habits to consider
1. 1 - 3 hours / night 5 nights a week
2. Prioritise your work: do you least favourite subject first
3. Phones / Ipads / other devices out of ear/ eye and every other shot you can think of. They are an absolute DISTRACTION and a time waster
4. Reward yourself with down time eg. Phone Xbox Netflix etc But ONLY after you have completed a certain amount of homework.
5. Be aware of school policies (QCAA policies) around Due Dates Absence for assessment etc Academic Integrity Policy
6. Be organised: a) Study planner / schedule b) School Diary c) Desk / bedroom d) School bag e) Desktop Remember .BACKUP everything!!! . And A due date is A due date is A due date
What can you do: Be aware of the subjects being studied Be aware of the required assessment Be aware of the block exam times Part time work no more than 12hrs/week
Also remember: We need to extend student working memory
Maths & Science Subjects external exams Cover Units 3 & 4 that is: 12 months work
All other subjects External exams cover Unit 4 only however, it is still 6 months work
