  4. Smaller windmills are already used in many rural areas where there is no power grid, or a very unstable one. They re normally used for schools or clinics, or on light posts and traffic lights. There are also some on top of larger buildings, like Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio, or on office buildings downtown. USES

  7. Wind turbines under 100 kilowatts cost roughly $3,000 to $8,000 per kilowatt. A 10 kilowatt machine might have an installed cost of $50,000-$80,000 (or more). Wind turbines have significant economies of scale. The costs for a whole range of turbines go from about $1.3 million to $2.2 million per MW of nameplate capacity installed. Most of the commercial-scale turbines installed today are 2 MW in size and cost roughly $3-$4 million installed. Vortex Bladeless had a indiegogo to front their research and initial designs with $75,506 (USD) total funds raised 129% of their goal New Wind is the first to admit the efficiency of the trees is low compared to more consistent currents higher up, but believes the 23,500 (British Pound) trees are more viable and less intrusive.   8. Industrial wind turbines are a lot bigger than ones you might see in a schoolyard or behind someone's house. The widely used GE 1.5-megawatt model, for example, consists of 116-ft blades atop a 212-ft tower for a total height of 328 feet. Transport of such large items and the cranes needed to assemble them often presents problems in the remote areas where they are typically built. Roads must be widened, curves straightened, and in wild areas new roads built altogether. This takes down the amount of available habitat space for wildlife and plantlife in rural areas, thereby adding to carbon footprint.
