  1. DC Little League Field Maintenance 2022

  2. General Maintenance Ensure any trash within the dugouts or on the field is picked up and placed in the trashcan. Please do not throw or hit baseball into the fences surrounding the fields. Please avoid any areas that may be wet. Teach your players to warm up in the outfield grass Players should not remove any base plugs. If bases need moving to accommodate the correct base length, coaches should remove the base plug from the spot in which the base should be moved to and replace it in the hole the base was removed from. If practice or games are to be played and wet conditions exist, please see a DLL staff member for use of field materials required to address wet areas.

  3. Lining a field Equipment you will need: Base tool, Chalker, lime, reel with string, painter and paint Prior to lining a field, ensure the bases are at the correct location and broom the home plate area and 1stand 3rdbaselines. Use the batters box frame to draw an outline on the ground (with your finger or base tool). Alignment of the frame is key to ensure this is done correctly Fill the chalking machine ~1/2 full of lime. Apply lime to the lines of both batters' boxes. Pull a string from the back point of home plate to the foul side of 1stbase and to the foul side of the outfield line in right field. You can use screw drivers at the point of home plate and on right field line to hold the string in place. If outfield lines are needed, pull the string all the way down and place in the ground on the foul side of the foul ball pole on the outfield fence. Use the chalker to lay a line following the string. The foul line should begin at the front line of the batter's box. The foul side of the chalk line should drop on the string that has been pulled. Lime should only be dropped to the point in which the outfield grass begins. Paint is utilized on the outfield portion of the foul line. Once the foul line is complete for the 1stbase side, remove the screwdriver holding the string in place for the outfield and move it over to the 3rdbase side. Repeat the process as completed for the first base side.

  4. BIRD CO. And K AND W (Post practice) 1stand 3rdbase lines should be broomed (fair and foul side) Home plate area should have any ruts filled in with the broom and then a circular motion used to smooth out the batter's box and catchers' area. 1st, 2ndand 3rdbase should be broomed. 1st pull dirt back to fill any area where runners may have dove back into 1stfrom attempted pick-offs, smooth dirt around the base, and the cut out around the base. 2nd pull dirt back into area where runners have slid into second , smooth dirt around the base, and the cut out around the base. 3rd pull dirt back to fill any area needed , smooth dirt around the base, and the cut out around the base. One pass should be made around the entire infield grass area and where the outfield grass meets the infield Pitching mound and lane should be broomed .
