  3. Agenda AGENDA Who is impacted by rule changes? How do the changes impact educators differently? When will this impact the field? What are the highlighted changes?

  4. How do the changes in the rule impact renewals? Educators can always keep what they already have, if renewal requirements are met. Ed Techs 45 contact hours or 3 sem. hours Teachers/Specialists 90 contact hours or 6 sem. hours Renewal Requirements No longer includes progressive requirements (asst bldg. admin > bldg. admin) Admin 90 contact hours or 6 sem. Hours

  5. 13006-A In five instances, applicants can choose which version of Chapter 115 they wish to utilize, including: Those who held an active certificate during 21-22 school year Ex. teachers on professional certificates, waivers, conditionals, emergencies certificates A person who was enrolled in or completed (and qualified for a recommendation) an educator preparation program (EPP) during 21-22 school year Ex. incoming freshmen and others joining will follow new rule Person who applied under old regulations Ex. applicants will continue under old regulations 13006 amendment to 115 Which version of the rule applies to me?

New rules begin June 10th Applications submitted June 10 and after will be evaluated with new rule Applications submitted prior to June 10 will be evaluated with current/old rule PDF support documents for each endorsement currently being created and will be posted at www.maine.gov/doe/cert When will this impact the field?

Highlighted Specific Changes Part I Changesin out-of-state licensure applying for a professional certificate Addition of the Emergency Educational Technician and Emergency Teacher certificates Addition of Alternative Education Teacher requirements Clarifications in the Local Credentialing Committee language (Section 9)

Highlighted Specific Changes Part II Alternatives to Praxis requirements: Passed basic skills test in reading, writing, mathematics; Achieved at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA in all courses required for the certification; or Completed successful portfolio review demonstrating competency in Maine s Initial Teacher Standards New Coursework 3 sem. hours of diversity-centered content related to today s classroom 3 sem. hours of human/child development or educational/developmental psychology

Highlighted Specific Changes Part II Updated professional standards Library Media Specialist (071) School Counselor (075) Administrators New Endorsements ASL (454) and Health & PE (512) Elementary Teacher (020) Grade spans moved to K-6 Additional literacy course Social Studies (200) Psychology and Sociology added as allowable content

Highlighted Specific Changes Part II World Language Additional options to meet content requirements English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) (660) Additional pathway and clarity of requirements Inclusion of PK in many endorsements Changes to the Teacher of Children with Disabilities certificate (282) Birth-5: Additional requirement for Teacher of Children with Disabilities, student teaching setting Course categories New conditional possibilities for Ed Tech IIIs
