  2. What are dividends? . A dividend is a portion of a company's earnings that is paid to a shareholder. The most common type of dividend is a cash payout, but some companies will issue stock dividends. Dividends are typically issued quarterly but can also be disbursed monthly or annually. In Nigeria, Dividends are typically paid twice a year Why are Dividends Important? Dividends can provide regular income to the investor Dividend-paying stocks provide a way for investors to get paid during rocky market periods, when capital gains are hard to achieve. They may provide some hedge against inflation, especially when they grow over time. Dividend-paying stocks, on average, tend to be less volatile than non-dividend-paying stocks. They can act as an income stream, especially when reinvested to take advantage of the power of compounding, can help build wealth over time.

SEC Statistics on Unclaimed Dividends The Securities and Exchange Commission,(S.E.C) In August 2023, stated that the total value . of unclaimed dividends rose to N190bn, representing a 7.35 per cent rise from N177bn recorded in 2021, which was the last figure from the SEC. Reasons why dividends are unclaimed Multiple Subscriptions No central database for the registrars Different requirements from the various registrars Non tracking of investments by investors Non tracking of investments/ dividends of deceased investors failure to update records with the registrars or investment companies Buying shares with different combination of the investor's names Errors in spelling of the investor's names. Misplacing of Dividend warrants . What is the ( SEC) U-Ediv Search Portal This is a portal created and managed by the SEC, whereby you can go and check if you have any outstanding dividends

  5. Steps on how to recover your unclaimed dividends 1. Go to the SEC portal for dividends. The link can be found below: https://sec.gov.ng/non-mandated/ . 2. Follow the instructions, by inputting your surname and your other name(s) 3.If you have any outstanding dividends, it should bring up your name, the company you have dividends in. you can go the registrar's website to download the E-dividend form.

  7. How To Make Future Dividend Payment Hassle Free . Once you purchase stock that you haven t bought before, kindly reach out to your broker for a share allotment form. It is a form that is used by the registrar to process your information, especially your signature. Once the share allotment form is processed, kindly download your E-dividend Mandate form, fill it for processing. Once that is done, your account will be mandated, and your dividends will be paid into your account seamlessly

  8. Global Search - How To Search For Your Lost Shares . Write a letter addressed to CSCS instructing them to carry out a global search against your name In the letter, list the different combination of names that you might have bought the shares in Also list the different addresses you might have been staying when the shares were purchased You will need to attach an eligible ID Card for the search to be conducted You will pay the sum of N1,050 to the CSCS FBNH account 2023148006. Once payment has been made, kindly attach it to the letter and send to your broker to forward to CSCS to begin the search Once the search is done you will be notified of the number of pages, and be advised of payment to be made per page
