2. Aim: How do you write an evidence based claim? Historical Context: This is an introduction to your evidence based claim that provides background information and perspective on the subject you are going to write about. For example: Discuss a previous event that paved the way for the event you are writing about. Provide background information about the theme that the claim is focusing on.

3. Evidence Based Claims Claim/Thesis: Take a side based on the given prompt. This is your argument/thesis statement. Middle School Level Claims (NOT ACCEPTABLE): The Gupta Empire was definitely a golden age in the history of India. The Gupta Empire was a golden age for many reasons (this makes Mr. Berman cry. And not tears of joy!). High School Level Claim (THIS IS WHAT YOU SHOULD WRITE): The Gupta Empire was definitely a golden age in the history of India because

4. Evidence Based Claim THE CLAIM OR THESIS CAN BE MORE THAN ONE SENTENCE! FOR MORE COMPLEX QUESTIONS, IT SHOULD BE MORE THAN ONE SENTENCE.

5. Evidence Based Claims Evidence Analysis Achievements in Mathematics Provide a one paragraph (5-6 sentences minimum) explanation of what the Gupta accomplished in this field and how this contributed to the time period being a golden age. Use relevant historical details, vocabulary, people and analogies. This should be the most sophisticated and well-articulated part of your EBC.
