The Rapid Assessment Survey conducted in Samoa in March 2021 examined the impact of COVID-19 on the economy, employment, and households. The survey, funded by the ILO, provided critical insights into the challenges faced by businesses, employees, and households in Samoa. Key findings from the survey and focus group discussions were analyzed to identify synergies and propose a way forward for Samoa in dealing with the socio-economic impacts of the pandemic.

  3. ILO Assistance ILO funded the Rapid Assessment Survey to provide initial snap shot on the impact of COVID 19 on the economy focusing on employment. The RAS is p[art of the 2016-2020 SNEP Review and 2021-2025 SNEP currently being developed. Other ILO programs includes: Social Protection International Labour Standard Promotion of Decent Works (SDG8) Climate Change Resilient Programmes Occupational Safety and Health LMI (Labour Market Information System) Labour Law Review Social Dialogue & Tripartism

  4. Introduction With the support of the ILO National Coordinator and Regional Office, a Rapid Assessment for Samoa was commissioned commencing May 2020. An Impact Assessment and Monitoring Taskforce was established including key social partners . Methodology: Specifically targeted 119 businesses most affected, 152 employees still working, 200 Laid Off Employees and 210 H/H that have had a member being laid off due to COVID-19 to identify the socio-economic impact of the pandemic. Focus Group discussion to discuss and digest RAS Results. Aim- establish common set of challenges facing Enterprises, Employees and H/H in Samoa, possible remedies could be offered either through GOS, NGO as well as DPs.
