Basis of Concept Note on National Consultations Result of the Meeting held with NSOs, Partners and Donors on 25/26 June. Three key takeaways influencing this proposed approach: Coordination is happening across the pacific with respect to undertaking surveys to measure the impact of COVID-19, but a lot more could be done at the national level For many PICs, NSOs were not heavily enough engaged in deliberations on Rapid Assessment Surveys to address COVID-19, and ideally should be in a leadership role The survey schedule (especially w.r.t household surveys) for the pacific region needs some reviewing as a result of COVID-19 What are the impacts on existing data collections What additional CODIV-19 surveys may be on the horizon
Proposal summary Working through the National Government Statisticians, organize a series of National Workshops for all PICs of interest, with the following key objectives: Get everyone on the same page as to what is happening/planned at the national level from a survey perspective as a result of COVID-19 Provide feedback on the recommendations of the PSMB on moving forward with Rapid Assessment Surveys Deliberate on what course of action the country wish to pursue w.r.t existing surveys and any new Rapid Response Assessment Surveys relating to COVID-19 (and Cyclone Harold) Who would be involved: Key members of any existing national COVID-19 task force Government Statistician (and key NSO staff) Senior Govt officials from Line Ministries most effected by COVID-19 Development Partners involved in existing surveys or planned COVID-19 surveys Timing As soon as possible start as early as week of 20 July and wrap up by 31 July
Example of Draft Agenda Session 1: Overview of current Survey Activities planned until December 2021 Countries (led by NSO) present status of existing surveys and additional Rapid Assessment surveys Development Partners provide further updates on possible plans for Rapid Assessment surveys Session 2: Guidance from PSMB on carrying out COVID-19 surveys Presentation on outcomes from PSMB meeting on 9-10 July with potential guidance on how to address methodological issues of Rapid Assessment surveys Session 3: Agreed approach for moving forward Plenary discussion to seek agreement on plans to address impact of COVID-19 on existing surveys Plenary discussion to reach preferred approach in carrying out any Rapid Assessment surveys
