Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development Note Regarding MLTSD Data The charts in this presentation reflect a snapshot of the data in the system at a particular time and is subject to change due to updates to the Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development (MLTSD) Data Systems Critical injury numbers represent critical injuries reported to the ministry and not necessarily critical injuries as defined by the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA). Critical injuries in the ministry s data systems may include non-workers, as this is required to be reported. The MLTSD tracks and reports fatalities at workplaces covered by the OHSA. This excludes death from natural causes, death of non-workers at a workplace, suicides, death as a result of a criminal act or traffic accident (unless the OHSA is also implicated) and death from occupational exposures that occurred many years ago. Fatality data is presented by calendar year to be consistent with WSIB harmonized data. Fatality data is tracked by event date, not death date. This represents data that was reported to the ministry and may not represent what actually occurred at the workplace. 2 August 10, 2024

Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development Current Regulatory Consultations Notice Requirements The ministry is consulting on proposed amendments to changes to notice requirements under Part VII of the OHSA and various regulations, including Regulation 854, that would, if approved, streamline the prescribed written reporting requirements into a single regulation that would apply to all workplaces covered under the OHSA. Ends February 12, 2021. https://www.ontariocanada.com/registry/view.do?postingId=35627&language=en First Aid Requirements The ministry is proposing to transfer theresponsibility of workplace first aid from the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) to MLTSD. Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development Working at Heights Training Standards Five-Year Review Notice of Public Consultation Comments Due Date: March 11, 2021 The consultation is part of the commitment made by the province s Chief Prevention Officer (CPO) to review the Working at Heights training program and provider standards every five years. The intent of the review is to ensure the Working at Heights Training standards remain effective. Falls from heights are the number one cause of fatalities and the third most common cause of lost-time injuries in the construction sector. 11. Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development Amendments to Regulation 854 (Mines and Mining Plants) The most recent amendments to Regulation 854 came into effect on July 1, 2019, and included the following: 89. (1) Where metallic or non-metallic rock is being removed from a surface mine, (a) the vertical height of the working face shall not be more than twenty- five metres; and (b) except where a tunnelling method is used to remove the rock, no undercutting of the working face shall be permitted or done. (2) Clause (1) (a) does not apply if a professional engineer certifies in writing that no worker would be endangered if the vertical height of the working face is more than twenty-five metres. 12. Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development Recent Occupational Health Amendments Amendments to Reg. 833 (Control of Exposure to Biological and Chemical Agents) and O. Reg. 490/09 (Designated Substances) came into effect January 1, 2020: 9 separate Medical Surveillance Codes were replaced with one single consolidated and updated Medical Surveillance Code 16 separate Codes for Respiratory Equipment and Measuring Airborne Substances were replaced with new, updated, and consolidated respiratory protection and measuring provisions The requirements apply to workplaces broadly and set out employer duties regarding respirators, as well as address their use, care and maintenance the Quebec model can now be used for calculating exposures to hazardous substances for irregular work shifts OHCOW has developed a tool that can be used to calculate exposures according to the Quebec model at https://www.ohcow.on.ca/oel-adjust- tool.html substitution, or substituting hazardous substances with those that are less hazardous, has been added to the hierarchy of controls in Reg. 833 12 February 2021
